In dire need of answer.

hello dsmtuners. A while back i made a post about my speedometer not working as well as my odometer. my thoughts on the problem were the same as others. replace the speed sensor mounted to the tranny. I went down to misubishi, and bought the part for 70.00 bucks. took it into work(I work for a lubetech facility) i had my store manager help me install it after hours, but it wasnt the problem. my old sensor was fine, i still have the new one in though. i made sure my cluster guage was connected secureley, and to be honest im at a loss. my manager tells me it might have a problem in the transmission with a gear shift or something along those lines. It is an automatic. anyway, if anyone has any ideas as to what the problem might be im all ears.. anything is appreciated.

I'm willing to bet that the pcb on the gauge cluster is bad. This was a common problem for cars made in the 90's. Do any of the other gauges not work?

the speedometer, odometer, and trip odometer dont work. and my gas guage wont go up past 3/4.

My guess is the circuit board on the instrument cluster is shot...

I would be leaning towards changing the gauge cluster

If you have a friend with a DSM near you, swap out the clusters and take both for a test drive, see if the problem fallows the cluster or stays with the car. Swapping clusters shouldnt take more than 5 minutes.

No i don't think this will work, the electrical connectors on the back of the cluster should be different since the n/t models dont have a boost or oil pressure guage.

Do your dummy lights come on when you turn the key to "on?"

yes they all turn on, and take a few seconds to turn back off.. i did notice my airbag light stays on recently. i dont know if this might be vital information, but my cars an automatic, and if I'm "flooring" the gas pedal when she shifts into 3rd gear i think(if its a 4speed ecu) not sure. the speedometer needle does jump up to about 70mph for about half a second or so then falls back down.
