Is there any way to install a in-dash dvd player (basically, a Dual xdvd8181) so that the whole head unit can be removed quickly and easily? I can't afford a detachable one, so I'm wondering if it can be installed in some sort of "quick release" bracket, or if there's some way to ghetto-rig such a thing.

Also, does anyone know a competent shop in or around Cincinnati that could do this?

You could just not bend the tabs that hold the metal case around the dvd player itself, sorry if that doesnt make sense, that would make it quasi-removable. You would still have to disconnect the wires from the back of the dvd player.

I don't know of a tidy way of going about it. Leaving the cage unattached would probably be more trouble than it'd be worth, and if a security measure is a bother, it won't get used.
Camoflage might be an option, to fabricate some kind of cover to put over it when parked.

You really wouldn't want to frequently remove something like this, not to mention that you would also have to remove the aux plugins and reset the unit each time. If you still have the din cubby tray, I would use that to duplicate a smoked acrylic cover and instead of installing the unit flush, I would recess it a half inch. Use the other set of mounting holes on the unit itself. When the unit is off and closed, and smoked acrylic will conceal everything. You could also velcro it to the closed screen door and when opened up, the acrylic would open with the screen. While closed the unit is concealed, but still accessible with a remote and viewable through the acrylic with the unit on. Just a thought.
