Ok so my battery light and e-brake light have been comming on while im on the parkway. So, i searched around and saw that the alternator is prolly shot. So i go to advance and had the guy test it. He did the test and said that he had no idea what to do. He said there was -161 amps and 171 amps and said the voltage was fine. Anyone know if this is bad. I really do not kno much about electrical ranges and what not for cars. Should i just get an alternator from advance, or are they trouble? Anyone know of a website where they are cheap and reliable?

Thanks :dsm:

Have you tested what the voltage at the battery is at idle? It would be helpful to see what it is at cruise as well.

If you do replace your alternator I would stick with a new Mitsubishi part as they tend to last significantly longer than the usual remanufactured units that you get from the cheaper places. It seems that the ICs on the remanufactured alternators can't take the heat in our engine bays and die early and often.

I would replace your alternator, as for getting one from the dealer it all depends on how much money you have to spend, i almost always go OEM on my car, but when my alternator went out and i found out how much the dealer wanted for a new one compared to Advance and they give a lifetime warranty with their re-manufactured alternators, and mine looked new. If you do decide to get one from Mitsubishi, i get all my OEM pars from this dealer and they have the best prices and fastest service, even though i have a local dealer 1/4 mile from my house :thumb:
