heres my fun story

well i was removing my turbo to do some work and i snapped a bolt off in the 16g. i got it sent out to the machine shop and they drilled/sleeved it. i was putting it back in and got it all put together and came to find my oil feed line off the head is now stripped out. oil just pours out of it.

a search yeilded that i should buy a ss line from a vendor and run that to my oil filter housing i believe. it said i should plug the line off of the head. how am i supposed to do this when it it stripped out?

does it sound like thats the right thing to do w/getting the line and going to the oil filter housing?

first step .. relax. Its not the first time its happend. I did this once actually ... i got it plugged and rerouted .. and im good now.

are you sure its stripped? Looking at the picture, it looks like you forogt to add new crush washers to both sides of the oil supply line, but I could be wrong, but it looks like they are missing, if they are indeed missing, be sure to purchase new ones rather than reuse the old ones. also they have special little funnels that wedge into the radiator cap housing that prevents the coolant mess you have. they are $1-2 from autozone.

i didnt forget the crush washers. i tried to thread it in w/o them to see if it would thread in. i am positive its stripped. the threads came out with it.

hey 4g63 where did you get it rerouted to? how did you plug it?

im having trouble finding the line that runs from the turbo to the oil filter housing. the only lines i can find are to the stock 2g location off of the head. any links are appreciated.

Why didn't you just Heli-Coil the head?

Tap it with a 10x 1.25mm and plug it with a bolt of the same size. Reroute your oil feed from the oil filter housing as mentioned before.

thanks for the link defiant. i was having a brain fart when posting the last thread. i checked sbr, machv and dsm parts and no one had the line i looked for. it then occoured to me to check the tuning guide on here for a list of vendors and i found the line i wanted. i read somewhere here on tuners that the oil is supposed to be cleaner/better coming off of the filter housing so thats why i chose to go that route. its basically the same price as a helicoil would be i guess, or at least relatively close. ive used a couple heli coils and i know they are safe and strong but for some reason i just dont feel confident about doing it. i know its stupid. oh well thanks for the help and if you find this thread useless go ahead and delete it.

Ran it to the oil filter housing .. used the RRE stainless line

I drilled and tapped mine and it worked fine for a couple of months. Then i found out i didn't clean it out well enough when a sliver worked itself free and clogged my stock oil feed line and killed my big 16g and a 14b replacement before i caught it.

mavisky, i should be able to avoid this right? if i clean it out as best as i can and theres still a sliver it should get caught in the oil filter. the feed is coming from directly out of the clean side according to the pictures i found. i hope my b16g doesnt go poo poo due to some stupid mistake i make.

Cover your tap in grease when you do it. should catch most of the flakes.

This is exactly correct, don't cut more than 1 turn of threads though before taking it back out. It never hurts to be overly safe in a situation like this.
