I'm new here, and have a few questions....

Hey guys,

I'm new to DSM's, just took an interest in them a couple days ago when a kid I know got one. Anyway, I would like to get either a 1997 Eclipse Spyder GS-T or an Eclipse GSX. I would really like the Spyder, because I've always wanted a convertible, but if there is a big difference in the performance between the two models then I could live with a hard top. I would like to know what differences the two models have.... I know the GSX is AWD and the GS-T is FWD, but I would like to know the difference in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Also, if there are any other differences that I should know about please let me know. Thanks for any insight!

FWD vs AWD


Convertable vs AWD the awd has awsome handling compared to it personally. If you don't mind loosing some traction and some handling through twisties then go FWD. If you live in snow and bad weather and low the twistes... AWD baby!


A convertable will be slower in the 1/4 and in 0-60 by an amount depending on the driver because of the convertable top + assembly.
Just go read up on it bro. It's here just search it out for exact numbers

Yeah its pretty much personal preference...awd drag, fwd hard top twisties and top end, fwd spyder drop top fun in the sun. Its all preference, kinda like asking which color should you get your car... Good luck in your choice either way youll be happy.

I guess I've already pretty much decided on a Spyder, because i love convertibles. I tried doing a search to find 1/4 mile and 0-60 times, but didn't have any luck. Could someone please let me know what the GS-T will run? Also, I read that KBB and Edmunds aren't very reliable sources for resale value on these cars because of their rarity. Does anyone have any idea how much a 97' GS-T with under 70k would cost?

I had the same dilemma. I ended up getting a 98 GST Spyder with 47K for under 13K. Traction is gonna be an issue once my car is running again due to some nice upgrades. But you can compensate with wider tires, suspension, and a LSD. The drop top is great in the sun- again once it's on the road again. I took my car to the track last fall and ran a 15.1 at 92mph. I've seen some GSX's run faster due to takeoff, but I've seen others run slower due to driveline loss. Stock they're about the same. Once the upgrades come, gsx will have better traction and will win a short race.

Is that 15.1 @ 92 in stock form? or was your car modified before that run?

That was 100% stock besides a turbo timer which doesn't affect performance anyway.

expect 15 flat as your best in a spyder...with awd and hardtop fwd high 14s are possible, but like everything driver ability and condition of the car are what will make or break you. Good luck, and like I sadi either way youll be happy.
