ok, so i just bought a 95 gst. the guy said it only had a blown head gasket. but when i started tearin her down, there was quite a bit more than just a blown head gasket. i just need to know if someone can guide me down the right track on hookin it up. i already bought a new head gasket and arp head studs. but now im kinda just sittin back scratchin my head. anyone got any advice?

Hey there! Can you expand on "quite a bite more"? That will help with answers.

Also, are you looking for a how-to on replacing the head gasket or help with all that needs to be done?

i just bought the haynes manual the other day, but ive realized that it doesnt really get to much into detail. not talking about the hg in general but as in everything else. my blow off valve was literally sitting inside of another hose. which was also dry rotted. mostly every hose is dry rotted. ive got a cracked exhaust manifold, they cut the cat off and welded a straight pipe from the down pipe all the way down to my muffler. the car basically sat for two years. but i love it. ive always wanted a dsm. not to mention its my first car.

and i would like help on all that needs to be done. LOL sorry guys im new to this.

What exactly are we trying to hook up?

What other damage/issues did you find?

Throw us a bone here.

Edit : ninjad by OP. Post some pictures of your issues and under the hood so we can get a better handle on this.

well i want to get it running first and foremost. ive got a cranked exhaust manifold. most hoses are either dry rotted or missing. my head gasket needs to be replaced, my exhaust is all messed up. its missing the catalytic converter. i poked a hole in my own radiator trying to take off the front end. im just beffudled about what the first thing i should is. and where to go from there

sorry cracked exhaust manifold

my cars at my shop where i work. i leave it there because all the tools i need are at my disposal. but either way i promise pictures would do no justice

only because i have it torn all the way down.

Grab a Haynes manual. That's your new best friend. Take one thing at a time. And this thread is completely useless without pictures. Basically, I got "I need help, but not sure what with".

i ws just asking for help on where to start. i explained my problems, ive already said i have a haynes manual, and i dont know what to do. thats why i came here hoping to find help. i said im a new guy. and i dont really know what im doing. if you cant help fine. but if you feel like you can then please id like advice. not someone telling me my thread is useless without pictures when i said i have it taken apart

Pictures might actually help Cause it sounds like your lost @ what to do next. Some of the folks here can spot issues with a crappy cell phone picture.

You got the car apart, and your lost getting it back together. Is that a better descriptiion of your problems?

Any time you take anything apart for the first time.Take pictures so you know how stuff goes back together.Sometimes trying to figure out how stuff goes back together is an uphill battle.

yes. and what i need to look for while putting it back together. plus i posted all the problems i found taking it apart from what i know.

Right but your vauge description makes it hard for us to help you. When we cant understand your wording,we cant help.

So you got the head off,and we need to figure out where stuff goes and how it goes back together.

Your going to need to replace all of the dry rotted hoses and probably the vacuum lines for one. When you say the BOV was just in a tube do you mean like this? (Disregard the red circles).

If so that is normal.

How bad is the crack in the exhaust manifold? I've seen a ton of them with that if it's just a small one. They usually seal up as soon as it warms up.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

Everyone above is pretty much correct. We are not trying to sound rude or mean in any way shape or form. You got to look at it from everyone else's point of view, a lot of people have been on the forums for a very long time and have helped a lot through out the years. And the only way we can help you is if we know exactly what your looking to be helped with.

So for starters, we have a blown head gasket. Have you identified the culprit to why the gasket blew in the first place? Look at the gasket closely and see where it blew.

Before you ripped the engine apart did you atleast check to to see if base timing is correct? If not then its going to be a little harder to rule out some of the more major things. Maybe the bent valves, skipped a tooth/timing, rings are bad etc etc....

As for the hoses it's an easy and cheap fix. You can get any and close to all sizes by the foot for pocket change at the local parts store. Might as well change all the ones you see fit for changing for a little peace of mind.

Like mentioned above about the BOV, if its stock 2g then it's suppose to be that way. If by "hooking up" you mean tastefully modding the car properly then I suggest upgrading to atleast a 1g BOV. It's tested and proven and can be crushed to handle more hp.

The strait pipe can aid in letting the car breath and freeing up some hp. Not much much but some. If your looking to replace it with a cat pm me for I have one off my car. If your not worried or have emissions test then I would say keep it. It does more good then harm to the car. Now to the people behind you I can't say the same LOL.

I keep going over this thread and to be quite frank, your everywhere to as what help you are seeking from the members here on the forum. You mention in the first post you got new hg and arp studs and are looking for someone to guide you to hook it up. Then you say you are just looking for advice on what to look for as you put it back together.

My advice to you is just get the car running first. If this what your asking for then do the following:

1. Check for any internal damage to engine. IE: pistons, rings, bearings, valves, seals, guides, etc etc.
2. Buy a complete gasket kit because your going to need to replace all the gaskets that were taken off the car. Oem is best, but fel pro, cometic and nippon racing are just as good.
3. Replace all the rotted hoses and all other hoses you see fit to be replaced.
4. Might as well buy timing components while the car is ripped down and your doing the head gasket: IE: timing belt (oem will do great for now and mild modding), water pump, balance shaft belt if you have them still, may racing timing belt tool, timing tensioner tool, timing pulley tool and hydronic timing tensioner. The tools mentioned above are worth every penny and will come in handy when you start getting go fast bits.
5. Get tune up stuff. IE: NGkbPR6ES .26-28 gap, spark plug wires, 5 quarts of motor oil, oil filter, 2.3 quarts of transmission fluid (many to chose from search the forums for recommendations), and coolant.
6. Do a once over to make sure you got everything you need and remember measure twice, cut once!!!!
7. When assembling the engine make sure you got the Haynes manual at the hip to make sure everything is torqued to specs. Take your time, do it right and have fun. If you need more advice just ask. If what I mentioned isn't what your looking for just say so and I can try to help you further.

Always remember everyone was at your point once and can help with what you need. Just be patient. Shxx I got my Dsm last August and man can I tell you I've been to hell and back. My engine blew on Wednesday. I spent 10-15k or mo since I got the car for 1800 bone stock with 130,xxx on it. These cars are money pita but to me are worth every single hard earned penny!!!!!

Good luck and have a nice day

-Anthony B.

That actually helps alot man. Im gonna get started and keep you posted. Thanks again man.
