Okay so I own a 90' Talon TSi AWD. Sunday afternoon about 4 blocks from home the car starts making this Supercharger sound when it hits spool up point so my first thought was "the turbo blew" and well I stopped it at home and what not pissed off. Then later on that night I drove it cold and it spooled up UNTIL it hit temperature then it started making that noise again. Then today I drove it cold, it was fine and THEN got up to temperature and it spooled up really nice. I'm confused on this, I have no clue what's going on, please give me your input on this or on what you think the issue may be. Thanks in advance guys :thumb: .

I had that noise once. Thats when I found out I had a bolt that got wedged underneathe my timing belt cover. It was my fault. It was from a lost valve cover bolt. Yeah it scraped off a good third of the upper layer of the belt. OMG I would also check for exhaust leaks around the manifold area. That may cause some noise, and it would change as the metal heats and expands.

I would check the timing belt.. also check the other belts!!! make sure the belts are not cracked, falling apart, and have a good tension

I did the timing belt about 2 weeks ago, I'll check into the belts for anything that's not right. The weird part is that the car monday ran fine till I hit 3,000 rpm which is spool point and right then is when that noise came on and there was no boost at all. Then yesterday I drove it all day and I spooled up normal all throughout the day, no noise no nothing, so that's why I'm confused. I will check the turbo for shaft play, didn't really know how to do that but thanks IC germs (+ feedback). Do you guys maybe think that it could be a intercooler piping problem???

if it were an intercooler piping problem your car would just stumble really bad as soon as you built any boost.. i wouldnt really make a supercharger sound..

Many times, when a turbo "blows", it develops shaft play. As the play progresses, the blades begin to lightly tough the sides of the compressor cover. That usually causes a whistle or a whine to be heard. In that case, you would usually notice that the turbo begins to spool slower and/or does not build as much boost as it is set for.

If these are the symptoms you are occuring, check the condition of your turbocharger.
