Hi, im having a bit of trouble figuring out exactly what I need to do here.
Last season I had no tach, 1990 electronics with a aem ecu, stock tach, 1990 style ignition etc. I used my AVCR boost controller to view RPM to shift when i was at the track, it wasn't the greatest method, I had no shift light either.
The AVCR is getting a fairly accurate signal from my ECU harness.
I did have some minor issues with ignition breaking up at 34lbs so I kept it around 32lbs which was fine, I was showing no knock..so it wasn't detonation causing the misfire, im thinking it was the ignition system.
I am doing a 'custom' cluster, where i will be using my own gauges, in basically a piece of aluminum plate, so everything is easy to view. Im going to be using just a standard autometer tachometer the thing is.. I just need it to work, along with my shift light.
I will continue to run the stock ingition, with the addition of a Dynatech arc-2 cdi, and perhaps gap the plugs at bit tighter.
Im just curious if i need to upgrade to the 91-94 style ignition to do this, or if i can do it with the 90 style, also If i will need a tach adaptor to get my tachometer to work. I do notice the CDI lists in the spec's that it includes a tach output which perhaps i could use to power my tach/shift light.
Any insight?
Would it be worth it to convert to 91-94 style, then install the dynatech and use its tach output to drive my aftermarket tach/shift light?
Thanks everyone.
