ok ive been wanting to put an ignition system on my car for a long time i have all the other components (plugs, wires, msd coil pack) and since my car is distributor less i was wondering if there is a more affordable ignition system/ add on than the msd DIS systems that will work on an engine with no distributor.

If I understand your question correctly , you already have the msd coil and wires, but you want to bump it up beyond that with a DIS-2 system, and also find out if there is anything more cost effective? Let me answer your question with a question. Do you have the 420a specific replacement coil, or do you have the Blaster Cap and that's what you want to add on? If you have the Blaster Cap, sell it and get a Granatelli Coil Pack instead. They are, IMO, better than MSD and cheaper too. If you have the replacement coil, then just switch everything out.

i have the msd blaster coil pack i bought from nopi a few years back. im not lookin for the best coil pack the one i have will work fine, but im trying to figure out if there is another ignition system or something to increase the spark for an engine with no distributor. everytime i find something it seems to always say something about a distributor at the end. so far i only know of the MSD DIS-2 and 4 systems made for distributor less engines.

Gotcha! Well if you want an ignition system the DIS 2 would probably be the more cost effective way to go about it. BUT, our cars have a pretty good ignition system from the get go and you really can't use the blaster cap on our system. You'd probably be pretty happy with the MSD coil pack or Granatelli. After saying that though, understand that you really won't see any real performance gains. Actually none at all. It does help maintain a stronger spark during boost or high RPMs. Hope this clears things up a little for you and good luck either way.

yah ive got the same coilpack as you it just says MSD blah blah blah LOL. but i got it to assure i have good spark throughout and it will hold up to an ignition system right? im just thinking, more spark, better combustion.

im just thinking, more spark, better combustion.

That's true... to a point. The stock ignition system was designed to deliver an adequate spark. Upgrading the ignition system on an otherwise stock car generally won't yield you any performance of efficiency gains. A hotter spark doesn't equate to greater volumetric efficiency.

Is your car turbocharged? If so, that's a different story. At high enough boost levels, your ignition system would benefit from upgrades allowing it to counteract the greater pressures inside the combustion chamber.

You could get a MegaSquirt system for that cost, and not only have those features, but complete control over fuel and spark.
