If you had a black 1gb, with nasty spider cracks and chips in your hood, would you leave it, or sand and paint it primer black? .... trying to deside which would look better.. opinions please.

LOL this post reminds me of my friends 1gb. everything is either scratched, faded, or peeling. IMO painting is flat black would be a nicer alternative, hell even primered black will look more appealing

damn paint fading cars.... the mirrors, wiper arms and cowl were all just painted with trim black paint. the only other bad part is that damn hood.... i might try to paint it eventualy to match the car, but for now i guess i can just prep it..... i dont think itll look to bad.. alot better then a car with a paint faded, spider cracked, stone chipped hood!

i thought the title was fairly descriptive, i had cracking paint a while back so i looked at the thread. anyways, that was a problem on 1G's due to a bad paint system chrysler had in the early 90's. this is a dead horse topic on why it happened. (but that's not what you asked anyways....)

as for your question... i would have to say strip it to bare metal, primer it and repaint it. i would go to bare metal so that the cracks don't show up in your new paint as well. they may do so even if you think it's been sanded enough. as for primer black or flat black... might not look bad if you like that look. go for it i say!

... sorry bout the title... didnt know this forum got so anal about stuff, and besides we do have that "scroll over and preview," option....

well back to the topic at hand..
Im gonna end up doing it.. but it wont be for a few weeks. I dont know if im gonna go all out and paint it to match cause im gonna get a carbon fiber hood anyways.... so yeah.., thanks for the opinions

The forum isn't. It's the Moderators, and the rules we try to get all you little darlings to abide by. You keep it from being an easy task.

Odd, but I don't have a mouse connected to my eyes, nor do I parade down the columns with a cursor. I just read them. Out of the fifteen pages a day, it's the only way to deal with it all.

My apologies for being so anal.

how long are you gonna leave it primer?? if its for a long period of time I wouldnt, leaving a metal part just in primer isnt so good in the long run because primer tends to attract and hold moisture, which could turn to rust.
I had the tailgate on my old truck all ready to go primered and after about 4 months you could see a lil bit of surface rust coming through.
