If you are going to switch, do it gradually. Do a syn. blend, then go to full syn.

That is what I did. As far as i know my car has always had regular oil. I got castrol syntec blend, the next time i changed it i got the same kind, and then i got catrol full syntec.

It seems to be more a story than a fact.

In my 91 tsi I switched directly to mobil 1 at around 110k - everything was fine. Except, I did notice that it burned a bit more oil than before. Around .25 of a qt more every 3k miles. No leaking though that I could see.

I used the same weight as the dyno oil, 10w30.

I switched to Penzoil (not the brand I wanted but would have to do for now) Synthetic at 92K, no leaks. I just barely changed to mobil 1, works like a charm.
