If I say OBX will you take me seriously?

I am serious however, when I ask. Is there anyone actively using the OBX camshafts? I want to know because I have a set installed in a brand new head attained from a recent car purchase.

The person told me the head was built to work for the cams i.e. modification to the valves, springs and retainers. With that being said, I can see how they may perform differently.

I simply want to know, is there a single soul out there running these.

If not, from those who have experience, given the 242 duration and .354 lift on both intake and exhaust, what type of performance are those numbers suited for?

I have a block with high compression pistions (10.5:1) and a block with low compression (8.8:1) which one will it mate with best is what I'm getting at.

Who's not taking you seriously? You didn't really ask a question anyone can answer. For the first question, I'm fairly certain no one here has used OBX cams before. And for the second question, it's impossible to tell exactly what kind of gains you'll make from adding a part. In fact, we call that "bench racing" and it's discouraged here.

get rid of them and buy different cams. i wouldn't want a cam with a profile like that on my car.. let alone a cam that i can't find myself personally on the internet. there are better proven cams out there for your car. but that's just me.

i would also not trust an internal engine part to be made by obx... maybe other piddly little dumb things, but not a set of camshafts.

good luck bud. oh, and to answer your first question... it is always better to run something that has been proven rather then something that nobody on a dsm board would run/has run/ or does run on their car. kinda a hint to ditch the crap... :D
go look at some dks cams... very affordable. like hks cam profiles.

I don't think he's asking for what kinda "numbers" he's can expect from them. I think he's asking with the numbers provided (duration and lift) what KIND of performance would he be looking at. If at low,mid or high rpm would he see the increase of performance.

Be the first to try them out, Id say slap them on the block your planning on using and hit a dyno then report back with the numbers. Its not like you'd have to remove the engine to upgrade cams later so there's no real loss, and anything is better than stock (unless they snap in half and destroy your engine...they are made in china)

i have obx cams in my car. it runs just dandy. i bought the car with them already installed and the previous owner went cheap with obx cams and the intake manifold but i still think it performs decent for a car only putting 115hp to the ground stock. i have a friend who has rode in my car, i have cams, i/m, cold air intake, and exhaust/headers, and he has also rode in a car with just a cold air intake and exhaust/headers and said mine is noticeably faster. although i have never put the car on a dyno and i myself have never rode in the car without cams i think it runs okay. except i do notice i have very little power under 2500 rpm's, after that if your not expecting it it'll put you in your seat. in first and second gear. man i wish i had a tsi LOL

Paul, that was actually my humor in the title, because for me personally, If someone asks me "should I use OBX?" I would answer, no. (possibly laugh) I say no, not because of their numerous poor reviews relating to manufacturing, but for the they way in which they operate their business duplicating popular parts; also because I feel that modifying your car on "the cheap" is risky and often times unreliable. So if others ask, I find it difficult to take them seriously risking their car like that. I don't want to contribute to someones broken down car because they trusted my word on less-than-quality parts.

I have various OBX parts which I obtained in trades. They have all been modified to work, and do work fine (Intake, headers, cat delete pipe, cat back exhaust, intake mani, cam gears, various other small things) The camshafts however are internals and directly related to the operation and performance of my car, I don't want to put a part in that is KNOWN bad quality. Poor fit on cams could instantly ruin a head, I know.

Not having experience in the mathematics required to calculate gains based on, lift, duration, spark or cam gear timing, I simply wanted to know if there was someone here who could speak to the POSSIBLE performance of these parts. I already own them, and I doubt anyone would buy them so I figured I could just use them.

I have all the spare parts to build two fully built long blocks, I just wanted to see which build I would try the cams in. I have two built heads with port work, new valves and ferrea components, two cometic HG's, two, 2.2 blocks, one with 8.8:1 JE's on Hbeams and one with 10.5:1 CP's on Hbeams, two sets of ARP studs, an extra turbo kit and more.

I couldn't sell the parts for what I wanted so I'm building them, dyno and track testing and I'll report back. If I destroy something I don't care, it's all spare parts to me anyway. Just want to TRY and not destroy anything so I could actually contribute some results here.

I thank you guys for the info you have given though, I hope to get things together next week.

I'm glad you came out to the thread. I wish that I could see a dyno chart of your current setup. Either way I feel confident testing them now.

I'm going to use mine on the all motor build I decided. Just going to toy with the adjustable gears and add as much nitrous as it can handle.

I will post dyno results before and after any timing adjustments though for those who are interested.

talon1997, try using facebook mobile maybe, or myspace apps. If you can't do that, then send me the video to my phone and I'll upload it. 270-320-0069

my car has exactly 185768 miles on the odometer and it still runs strong with these cams. i have a friend who has rode in my car and he said its alot quicker than the other two nonturbo eclipses he's rode in, but mine also has an obx intake manifold and full cold air intake and full exhaust, but my exhaust looks pretty restricted because its a homemade piece, and there cars both have full exhausts and cold air intakes. my car has nothing power like the locks or windows or anything and the other two did, so i'm guessing mine is quite a bit lighter too.
bmxunderground: hey man, i'll just send you a video later and let you post it up, but keep in mind its only gonna be cell phone quality so it probably wont do it justice

ok, uploaded the video to my youtube that you sent, and here it is. Sounds like a mild lope. And your car didn't idle like this before correct? the lope is all just cams?

LOL hey thats my car! yeah man i believe that lope is all cams. i bought the car with these cams installed and i did see the reciepts, i think i have them somewhere, and i know they are obx cams in the car and it also has an obx intake manifold. i was told the car didnt lope at all before the cams were installed and there are no vacuum leaks or anything else that i know of that could cause this. but i believe now after it has been driven hard that one of my valve seals are going bad and its burning oil, so maybe that could be caused by the cams? i'm almost positive the cams were installed on the stock valvetrain. or maybe the fact that the motor has almost two hundred thousand miles on it and the past twenty thousand at least have been pretty hard.

well, I'm going to get this engine put together and get the car on the dyno and see whats up. Using the 10.5:1 compression on the forged bottom end and the built head with cams and cam gears and see what happens. Have to pick up two things first and I'm good. Need bearings and a timing belt.

I have obx cams with my car. 2.2. 10.5:1 pistons, p n p head with stock valve train. I raced my friends teggy that had gsr trans type r pistons, type r intake, lightweight flywheel and exhaust. I launched on him hard but he caught me cause the gsr trans has short gears but he couldnt pull away and then I started creepin on him. I also have stock injectors and stock ecu,but it was a really good race. Thats my obx review for you guys

my buddy is running them in his 420a and loves them. I would go for crower especially if your heead has been built to handle cams like that. You won't regret it.

I started this thread a long time ago. Ultimately, I ended up using another brand however, if anyone recorded data from their dyno run with their OBX cam'd vehicle, would you mind posting the results? I think that would seal this thread right up for those just getting into the scene.

My buddy has stage 1 obx cams. Compared to my Crower 2's they are pretty weak. Not much of a lope at idle. But they run good and he hasn't had any problems with them so far. No dyno sheets though.

We need dyno sheets. Only that type of data will help in our newest users in pursuit of the power goals they've desired.
