If doing ECU Swap, does transmission type matter?

Hi, going to be replacing my ECU on a 97 Eclipse GS-T.

Now I already know that the ECU has to come from a 97 GS-T, but, since my car is an automatic tranny, does the replacement ECU have to come from a GS-T with an automatic tranny as well? I know there is a TCU (transmission controller unit) which is seperate, but I need to know before I buy it.

Any help appreciated.

Tranny type doesnt matter. About the only major difference in ecms are that the gst has a speed limiter and awd one doesnt. If anyone else has better info Im sure they will chime in.Hope this helps. Travis

I dont know the answer but I would suggest looking for a EProm for a DSMLink if you are ever going to mod your car extensively.

Actually you can use and ECU from 97-99 turbo car whether it be from an auto/manual or FWD/AWD.
