First of all the car details:
1995 Eclipse GSX Auto
157k Miles (Fresh head about 10k miles ago)
Small 16G turbo
OBX FMIC
Ebay Intake
New o2 Sensor
stock bov

The other night I took the GSX out and after a while I drove the rpm's up to about 6k and all of the sudden the car goes all the way down to 0rmp on the gauge. The engine was still running but very poorly. It was fine to slowly make my way home (about .5 miles) but I could tell that something was definately off.

When I got home I put my car in neutral and tried to rev it, didn't do much; I tried flooring it and the rpm raised abnormally slow. The "check engine" light also went on :-( So I took off the exhaust manifold and saw that there are a few cracks on it's underside (new evo3 mani on the way). It also turns out that a couple of the exhaust manifold to turbo bolts were loose and caused the gasket to blow. While checking everything else to make sure it was hooked up properly I noticed the wastegate: the wastegate actuator has a hose going out of it to the solenoid valve and then the solenoid output hose taps back in to the hose going out of the wastegate! The stock vacuum hose diagram shows that that a hose is supposed to go from the wastegate actuator to the solenoid valve then solenoid valve to the intake. Could any of this cause the problem that I am having? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Well I looked in to the vacuum hose diagram and it turns out that some idiot installed the small 16g (I recently got the car from my brother who had some mechanic install the turbo) and did not hook up the wastegate properly. There is no line coming from the boosted side to let the wastegate actuator do it's job. So it was just stuck closed... So I'm hoping that the problem was just an exhaust leak due to the blown gasket and cracked manifold, but we will see... From my knowledge (which is not very expansive) If I broke something in the engine, then it would just die and not idle. After the problem occured it idled the exact same the next day so I am wondering if it went into safe mode or something if that exists?? I will be installing the evo3 manifold and new gaskets probably in the next couple of days and see if that fixes the problem, otherwise I will be forced to take it to the shop :-(

Not neccesarily, I spun a rod in mine and it stayed running wanted to die an did but it would start back up and idle low. Kinda sounds like what you have going, Hope not.:beatentodeath:

Well I sure hope not. I don't have a hole in the block and an oil spill so hopefully the thrown rod is out of the question, but I haven't checked the oil for metal shavings to indicate a spun bearing. We shall see!

run a diagnostic check and see what codes your ecu is throwing. i'd be more than willing to bet its gonna throw a PO300, Multiple/Random Misfire. and no, you dont have anything wrong inside the engine. scroll down on the problem diagnosis page and read through the post by bboyalan titled "Misfire PO300 Code". we've been testing and retesting sensors throughout the car for the last week trying to narrow down the problem. my gst has been parked for 2 months because of this same thing. its either a CAS,(crank angle sensor) or a CPS(crankshaft position sensor). just keep watching the previously mentioned thread and we'll get it figured out before long.
