The 96 GST im looking at idles rather low i think, like 700 rpms maybe, and wen i give it a little gas, its fine but then it falls way down and almost stalls out, then after a few seconds it comes back to idle at like 700 again. why is this?

also, how much do yall think a new hatch (trunk) would be?

thanks :dsm:

ISC?

Back when I had a MAF sensor in my car and I forgot to plug it back in it would act kind of like that. Just something to double check.

Try adjuststing your idle screw. This is the screw located on your throttle body. This controls the idle. Every so often, it may need to be adjusted. If its idling at 700, Thats barely idling and you arnt building very good oil pressure. So it will drop especially when your using power like blasting the ac or braking. This causes the idle to drop more and possibly stall the car. The perfect idle is 750, but i like mine a little higher like around 850.

ISC is idle speed control. I had to replace this when i had an idle "surge". Thats when the rpms would bounce around from 800-1500.

but the idle doesnt bounce around, its just when i give it gas, it goes up in rpms (to where i gas it) then when it falls back to idle, it falls all the way down to like 200 rmp and just about dies for a second or 2 before it goes back to normal idle

Make sure the BOV is still recirculated back into the intake line. Stock, our vehicles need that, or they can/will stall out quite easily. It should just be a black S-like tube from the BOV to the intake line.

If that isn't there, the car can die randomly and after revs it can/will 'die' or stall out.

im pretty sure that the bov is recirculated. my automotive teacher (real smart dude) said that it may be caused by a multitude, one being a bad cat (the whole exhaust on this car was infested by mice/rats and then cleaned out. the OUTSIDE of the cat is in rough condition, i dont know about the inners) because the exhaust cant escape and gets built up in the exhaust. anybody know anything about this or have any other opinions? thanks :dsm:

i want to go check out the car this weekend. should there be anyting i can check or do to diagnos a problem? helpp is greatly appreciated.
thanks

try making sure the plug on top of the idle adjuster is tight. i had the same problem, and that plug was leaking vacuum which at idle is very noticable. :laser:
