my check engine light came on and i found out that my ISC is bad.
when i start my car in the morning it just runs like crap. so i have to give gas in neutral to not let it stall. but heres my question, my alternator went bad not too long ago and i got it replaced to my friends one thats sitting in his garage and everytime my car has idle issues (cold weather) the alternator belt squeaks like hell. it does it until i put it in 3rd basically. any relations to the ISC? or is the alternator belt doing a bad job.

I tell you what. My Check Engine light turned on one day after a long trip... my idle was high (900-1200) after that day. But I had a terrible squealing belt for almost a year. I figured I had a bad ISC, and the belt noise had always been there so I didn’t suspect any relation.
A few weeks ago I did my waterpump/tbelt job. after reinstalling everything i noticed right away the belt noise was gone. now the ISC would trigger the CES light after ECU reset after maybe a few hours of driving, so ive been expecting it to come back since the waterpump job.
Im not complaining er anything but the light hasnt come back. Belts haven’t squealed and it’s starting to get cold too.

My advice then would be to go back down there, retighten everything to spec. And hope its quiet then.

Check the tension on the belt make sure it is tight enough. Odds are it is not related to the ISC. If the idle is surging that may assist the belt noise. If the belt is properly tightened it may need replacement.:dsm:

alright. so would it be wise to try cleaning out my ISC first and then get a new one if it doesnt work too well? and ill try tightning all my belts soon
thanks for the advice :thumb:
also what i noticed was when my voltage reading reaches 13.5, the belt squeak sound goes away.

i will get on that ASAP and ill post how it went
thanks :)

You also might want to try testing your isc if you take it off. It may look dirty and still function properly or vice versa. Check and make sure the connector is tight on the isc as well. There is a very good vfaq article on testing your isc.

http://www.vfaq.com

thanks i certainly will :)
but i know you have to use a 6v battery to do the test but not 100% clear on the procedures.

It sounds more complicated than it is. I knew almost nothing about a 400whp talon I bought when I tested my isc. Its was intimidating since I had very little wrench turning experience, but it is really not that bad. Just remove the connector and 2 bolts from the isc to remove it. You will need a couple wires, alligator clips, and a 6v battery. Follow the vfaq instructions and look at the pictures. I am sure you can handle it. Let me know if you don't understand something or need help. I will be glad to help any way I can.
