i have been having this problem since i bought my car a year ago, and it's starting to get worse.

when i am in stop and go traffic, the idle gradually raises. the logger says it is adding throttle when it does this, and the air temp goes from 80.4 to 81.2. if i don't hit an open patch of road to cruise on for about 4 or 5 miles, it will just keep getting worse. it will add up to 4% throttle, and the temp gauge will start to rise. it will idle as high as 2600 rpm.

it does it worse when it's warm out (daytime), but still does it with 2" of snow on the ground.

i know i have a 3" crack in my fmic, but i didn't think that would be the cause of this. i was thinking ISC or TPS related.

anyone know WTF is going on????? this is really irritating me to the point of not wanting to even drive it. any replies are appreciated.

Either your radiator fans are dead and dont' come on.. or you have a broken thermostat. Check to see if your fans come on when the car is hot. Mainly the passenger side. The other thing is to start your car with the radiator cap off and look at the coolant. After it hits proper temperature.. only 5 mins on a warm day or less.. you should see the coolant recirculating or going by the radiator cap. If not, you have a busted thermostat, or a busted water pump.

ya I have the same problem with my car. I though it was the ISC motor, and i forked out for a new one and guess what.. it wasn't it.. god i hate my car... My car is alos doing the same thing. i can see it raise during driving under traffic. its been really pissing me off.

check the throttle cable to make sure it is not steching and opening your throttle plate, if so just adjust the throtle cable bracket on top of the intake manifold.

damn we should all start a club. Mine does the same thing. ive noticed that if i physicaly move the throttle plate closed it stops for the time being, so i thought it was the throttle return spring. if someone finds out for sure post it up and let us know.

i got a similar problem too. when i start the car it idles at 1000 after a minutes of driving it will start to idle at 1500. well, today it did it again and the CEL came on. Do you think my ISC is bad since the CEL came on when it went to 1500 and stay there for a few minutes.

i can hear my fans come on when it warms up. i am going to put new ones on anyway cause i have 2 laying around. oh, and when i start my car, it idles at about 2200, then gradually goes down as it warms up. keep the replies coming. -Josh

well, i just got my idle down from 1400 to 500. all i did was tap around the ISC and mess around that area when my car was running and then i turn it off and turn it back on and bam its down to 500.

I had the similar problem with my older 1G Eclipse. First I tought it was the TPS or the ISC. Both were good. Then I changed the screw on the Throttle body where you can adjust the idle. Didn't help. Last thing I did, since I eliminated the water lines/hoses from the throttle body, is by removing the water plug from the throttle body and filled it with silicone. That resolved the problem. It seems that sometimes when you eliminate the waterlines going to the TB, unwanted air will circulate in the TB and causes the TPS to get a false reading and makes the car idle above 2000 rpm. Hope this helps

i started my car after work and made the idle raise on purpose. it started to add throttle, like it does in stop and go traffic. i messed with the throttle cable, and the idle dropped back down to 750. loosen the throttle cable and all will be well.
