i was sitting at a red light right around the block from my house. i notice that it stopped rattiling like it usually does with prothane mounts. so i look down at the dash and my oil pressure light is on and i have no oil pressure. then i try starting it a couple of times but sure enuff the car wont start. i check the oil after i push it into the corner store and the level is at 3/4 the way up. it didnt make any ruff sounding noises like knock, spun bearing, or anything of that nature.

to me it sounds like a new valve job, new timming belt, oil pump belt, head gasket, and etc...

i just want to see what you guys think of what else that could be wrong.

no i have not done a compression test yet. it happened last night.

Your description is kind of vague and it's really guess work at this point to try and figure out the cause.

Based on the description it could be:
Electronic-
---Fuel pump
---Cam/crank Angle Sensor
---ECU
---Wiring
---Coil Pack
---Resistor Pack
---Completely shot plugs or wires
---Engine Coolant Temp Sensor
---Throttle Position Sensor
---Bad Connection at the Battery
---Bad Ignition Switch
---Bad wiring/modules related to powering and running the engine
---Blown Fuses

Mechanical:
---Oil Pump
---Spun Bearings
---Siezed Crank
---Siezed Cams
---Broken Timing (and or Balance Shaft) belt

What you have eliminated is that there is oil in the car and the dash lights still work. Can you provide a bit more information? It would be a shame to do a cylinder head rebuild when you just needed a fuse.

Did you get the lights after the car shut off, or before?
i think the lights were on before it turned off but i could be wrong. i was more worried about getting out of the turning lane in the median. but i am pretty sure it was more than likely the car was off before the lights showed up.

Thank you very much for the provided info. I do remmeber that the temprature guage was acting a little funny to me but i could be wrong. The guage would read regular operating temprature but would go to zero like the car was off. So i will check that out when it stops raining here in Louisville.

Well get something to check your fuses and go through them one by one.

If your lights work, your alternator fuse is good, since your battery would be dead too.

Did you hear any kind of snap or something like a timing belt snapping at idle? You may have only snapped the belt and saved some valves, but when you tried to restart, you just crushed every valve that wasn't crushed.

Grab a small socket, not sure of the size, and take off the timing belt cover and look at it. If its not there, then its snapped, if its shredded, replace it, its about to snap.

Do you have gas in the car? I ran out of gas while warming my car up and I thought I snapped my belt, took me about 45 minutes to realize i had no gas, since my gas light never came on and the needle was near 1/4.

What was the temp outside, your thermostat might have gone bad, and not let coolant into your engine, therefore overheated. Happened to me at 65 west side highway in the bronx. At 2 am. Car felt like it was just a huge mass of moving metal, no power, nothing.

If your timing belt looks ok, it might have been hit by the balance shaft belt and jumped. Not sure what would happen if it would move the timing belt over a few teeth, since everything Ive heard of a balance belt breaking, the timing belt breaks too. You already have prothanes, and if you are changing your timing or balance belt, just do the balance shaft removal. Solves problems like this.

There can be so many things:

Just have to start looking from the easiest things and move onto the harder things.

I figured out that the car wasn't getting fuel. So i jumped it with wire with the spot on the wiring harness that lets you bypass everything and sends power to the pump. This contraption makes it run anyway. I start the car and it will run even with the wire off. i checked the fuses and fuel wiring setup and checked out ok. The realy that i did find was the fuel injection relay. The Haynes manual states that when this contraption is bad that it will result in no power to the fuel pump, fuel injectors, and ECM (ecu) and wil result in engine start failure.
