Idle bogs down a lot when A/C is turned on.

I have a '92 Eclipse GSX. According to Haynes and Mitsu. spec sheets, the car is suppose to idle up appx. 100 when the a/c is turned on. However, my car bogs down 400 rpms and barely maintains idle. Sometimes, when I hit the a/c button, it bogs so low the car will stall. What factors are involved in the proper functioning of the idle+a/c system?

Note: I have a brand new battery, alternator, ignition coils, idle speed controller (IAC), BISS, EGR valve, ECU caps, and a cleaned out TB. My timing is correct. My base idle is set to appx. 1000 b/c of this a/c problem. If it were set to spec at 750, a/c would be totally inoperable b/c the car would surely stall each time I turn it on.

ok, im totally lost, i read all of this, 2 or 3 times, and i still cant get it. i have the same AC surge problem, and part of it is, i need to replace my spark plug wires. but i do get the surges, and occasional stall out when my AC is on.ive adjusted my biss screw so, im idling between 900-1300 RPM, which isnt good, but itll have to do for now. so the solution is one of several things, correct?

ISC, FIAV, or get the AC compressor checked out?

Those 3 items would be a good place to start looking for sure. Definitely make sure you have good plug wires and spark plugs first though.

Well I did it monday and still working fine today. What I will have to disagree on the loss of power with the fiav. Tonoght my car ran 12.96@107 mph 1/4 mile with full leather interior, ac still intact, and abs still intact. That was at 21 psi with 50/50 mix oc 93 and cam 2 race fuel. And also rich as a dog. And now a broken tranny, I think so anyway. And I forgot to turn off the ac that pass.

yea. broken trannys suck, my last one was crap, hole all the way through the bell housing where the front wheels go into the tranny, and into where the clutch is. nasty lookin....

yea Ill get all that looked at pheonix, thanx for the thread location, guess i gotta learn to do a search first. other then that, i just gotta get my exhaust mani welded up, if not replaced, and my spark plug wires replaced. i had my timing chain cover off and it cut slits in my wires, thats part of why i stall out.

Do you think all I need to do is replace my FIAV? Do they even sell a FIAV by itself (I don't think they do)? If it was my FIAV, wouldn't I have other symtoms though? Anyone know how to fix this stupid a/c+stall problem.

Finally found a thread about the exact same problem I have, and it ends!

Any of you who had this problem ever get it fixed?

I feel your pain man. I still haven't been able to figure this one out. I've already replaced the caps on my ECU, my ISC with a brand new one, my BISS, among many other things. My idle is perfect except when I turn on my A/C it bogs down several hundred RPMS rather than idleing up 100 like the service manual dictates it should if everything is working properly. This can be a major pain during heat waves and your car will stall during stop-and-go traffic. Please help us.

Count me in as well. I posted a similar thread last week.

What is the trick here?
