okay so i have a 95 talon tsi awd and like most modded performance cars, its cold blooded and i have to let it warm up. When i first start it, the idol is really low, sometimes at 500 rpm. But when if i drive it and get it warmed up it will jump up to a good 1000 rpm. But heres the problem.. when its warmed up, and turn it in on and off a few times within a short period of time, (lets say im getting gas, or running to the store per-say and i have to) my idol will gradually get higher and higher after each start up. Even if i drive it long enough the idol will gradually go up anyways, but not as fast as the repetitively start ups make it go up. I constantly have to take a crescent wrench and adjust the idol depending on how warmed up or not warmed up it is and its gotten to the point of ridiculousness, i do it multiple times a day. I notice that sometimes i rev the throttle a couple times and the idol will jump down in rpms a bit, but only for short period of time. Any suggestions? My car feels healthy so i don't think its anything big, im just annoyed!

Sorry, but i just can't help myself. If your idol isn't good and steady, you should chose who you look up to better.

On a serious note. Take your throttle body apart and clean everything. Also check your coolant tempature sensor, and as always, do a boost leak test.

The only black box I can think of would be on the cruise control box on the firewall. You should only be touching the throttle body for your IDLE.

Being 17 doesn't mean anything other than you have had your license for at most a year. You will learn and the best way is by reading and searching and reading some more. When you search do "title search" and you will find better results.

A lot of people became home mechanics with their DSM so welcom aboard with that one :thumb:

Cleaning out the TB won't really do too much unless it's really gunked up and causing the plate to stick. The best thing you can do with the TB is get it rebuilt by yourself or someone else (it's not hard to do) so the seals don't leak anymore. Unless you block off the EGR, the intake manifold side of the TB will continue to get dirty.

The black box is off my firewall and it does adjust the idol. I'll look into that but i'd have to do some more research before jumping into doing something like that, which i've never done before myself. I appreciate the help!

If it's what I think you are adjusting, you are changing the tightness on the throttle cable. If that's so, you'll need 2 people to fix this now.

Person 1 is in the car with the foot on the pedal all the way to the floor.

Person 2 adjusts cable tightness to allow the throttle plate to open 100% (which you have now changed)

After that, you'll need to do a proper idle adjustment and you can look of VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions and do a search on here for adjusting idle.
