ok. does anyone know the numbers to identify an 18g I have a tdo5h and the numbers are:

49178 - 01030

is this an 18g?
measure the wheel...

that's what's bothering me. i measured the bore on the compressor side. it measures just a hair under 1 15/16 which comes to 1.9 or so. which is the size for a big 16g. But i got this from forced performance, i ordered an 18g. 18g compressor bores are 1.99 right? 49178 - 01030 is not a 16g number. So that's helping me feel better. would fp screw up or am i screwed up :D ?

If you ordered it new from FP I wouldn't worry about it. If you had bought it used it would be something to look into.

Is it their 18g with no turbine housing they have on special?

AH MAN! you type in 49178 - 01030 in google and you get references to 14bs only. and i know the compressor wheel is bigger than 1.6" in diameter!??
They use a 14b housing.

Ah! that makes sense.

Yes it is... i have a small 16g on now so i have a 7cm housing :thumb: . I am trying to measure it without taking the compressorhousing off :coy: :D so i may be not getting a correct measurement... i'm a paranoid perfectionist :sosad: so i probably should not worry about a product from FP...

wait, so did you get the FP 18G replacement CHRA/comp ? or did you buy a complete 18G? Last time I looked the replacement from FP did not include a turbine housing, so how could you pull off 14b stamped numbers from a turbine housing, if they never included one?

anyway, I would pull the compressor of and mic the exducer/inducer and make sure it's to spec with an 18G. then slap on that 7cm and go ! :thumb:

p.s., just because you got it from FP doesn't mean that the person who packaged your turbo didn't mess up. Machine's didn't package your stuff, a human did. so that means there still is a margin of error right there. Not putting down FP, but just reminding you that there could be that potential error.

This might be of help

MHI Turbo's

If the last 3 or 4 digits are

49178 - 01420 = Big 16G
49178 - 01520 = Small 16G
49178 - 01470 = Evo III 16G

 :) I already have a 7cm turbine housing on the car (small 16g) so i just bought the chra. What do you mean? i didn't pull any numbers of a 14 tubine housing. i got these numbers off this "18g" compressor housing: 49178 - 01030. :D

EDIT: BTW, is their a micrometer that can measure the wheel inside the housing? i've seen some that have "legs" that will fit in really small places.

RE-EDIT: I was able to measure the inducer bore of the housing accurately and it comes right to 2 1/32" i know the diameter of the wheel is damn close to that diameter because i can see the tolerances. so I am sure it is an 18g wheel now becasue an 18g inducer diameter is 1.99" either way it is not 1.89-1.90 like the big and evo 16g (1/16" smaller :) ). I CAN'T WAIT to get this littke bastard on :thumb: . Thanks for the help. For future reference, I think i confirmed that FP bores out 14b comp housings to drop in the 18g wheel . except for the no-water-line thing, it is very sleeper :D .

Why don't you just call FP? Or take a pic of it and send it to FP?

Why don't you go to FP's website and click on this link which is a closeup of their 18g with no exhaust housing.

Yes, yes. I'm a moron :coy: . but thank you for pointing that out. I'm sure it's an 18g now ... I getting real excited about this turbo. the compressor wheel is HUGE! compaired to my small 16G! I am looking at traction choices now. I WILL be a 12 second FWD. It's just a matter of time and about $1000 more :thumb: . Basically dsmlink, 18g, sticky tires, lsd, water injection, fuel support, and good driving right?

Best of luck to you, I'll be picking the 18g as well. See you in the 12's hopefully :thumb:

Ha, If you would have pulled the cover off to start with it would have explained the wacked measurments you where getting.
The inlet on the 14b cover is too small to bore all the way threw for the 18g wheel.
