Ok so I'm getting ready to buy another turbo for the time being and am looking to spend around $400-500. I have found a deal on a new evo 3 16g for $400,then I noticed on fp's website they have a deal on a 18g chra. I have a spare 14b layin around that I could install it in. My question is am I gonna get any more power from the 18g drop in vs the 16g? I was lookin on their site and didn't see any info on cfm or hp for it. Can anyone give me an idea on any benefit if any I would get from the center section? thanks

I was considering that 18g setup from fp untill I found a bearly used EVO 16g on ebay and bought that instead. I found a compressor map that was based on a shrunk and stretched 20g map. If it was an accurate guess, it looks like a pretty good turbo to me. http://www.stealth316.com/images/td05h-18g-cfm.gif

Where did you find a new Evo 16g for $400? I may just buy that and sell the used one I bought.

So do you think that map is the correct one for puttinga 18g chra into a 14b housing? I found the turbo somewhere :shhh: how much did you get your evo one for? Also is it the real evo 3 or the evo "gt" version?

I can't remember if it was that site of a different one that made a pretty good argument for the accuracy of that map. But I honestly have no idea of its accurecy.

I got the evo III for $400 shipped, supposedly only 1000 miles on it. Its the real one. Still waiting for it to show up.

I was looking at this turbo as a replacement for my stock 14b. I see a few potential problems, though. Would installing it in the 6cm housing lead to massive boost creep? Would the 14b wastegate be able to flow enough to keep my boost steady?

I noticed that FP also has a complete 18g. It comes with the 7cm housing and is clipped. I was just wondering if that is necessary, or if an upgraded flapper on my 14b housing might work. Thanks for any input.

I'm sure you could use it at 6cm but why not open it up and flow more air? Just port your housing to 7cm and RRE has a 34mm flapper for 20 bucks I think. Yeah it's a little extra work but it's better then paying someone else to do it for you. :thumb:

Cool, thanks!

I was under the impression that the 060 and 070 housings were different sizes, but after going back to the VFAQ page and looking over the pictures more closely, it looks like the only differnece is the size of the openings, and I am up for a little porting work. Thanks for the info!

The opening isnt the only difference between the 6cm and 7cm. The 7cm housing is larger

I guess that still leaves me wondering if it would work to put this turbo in my 14b housing. I don't really want to have it clipped, since I don't want to increase spool time, so maybe I should go with the complete 18g + 070 housing? Is anyone using an 18g in a 060 housing?
Thanks again.
