I was test only'ed, any help guys?

I'd rather just get it done, its not like it will ever be much more ready than it is now. I picked up the radiator and fan today, along with two new injector harnesses (don't ask, you should already know if your a member on this site)...

anyone want to follow me down there to make sure my car doesn't fall apart?

Also, I think its running rich at idle... GREATTTTTTTT.....
 
well, I drover her today and it looks like I should be able to make it to san jose without any serious problems if I replace my injector harness. I have a used one which Im going to swap tomorrow and prey to the lord everything goes well. Shes running super rich, so I'll probably have to lean things out. I've never seen a car run richer before in my life. Im guessing its overcompinsating for the bad harness, but I took out some airflow at idle anyways. It was litteraly a puddle of gas....

If you don't have a CARB-stickered filter, don't bother going for the test. Test Only centers are much, much, much more eagle-eyed than a regular smog shop (who doesn't have your patronage by the balls, and knows you can go three doors down to have the rest of your work done).
Also, the Test Only centers are continually in the crosshairs of the BAR. They do not want their gold mine filled-in.

the car actually legitimatly (somewhat) passed. It passed the idle, and Im sure it would have passed the 2500 even without the crutch we gave it.....

Well it is a K&N filter and it says K&N on it, But it's not in an air box/can. It was my understanding that the K&N is only legal in an air box. It's really the only mod that will catch attention. Besides the boost controler, My intercooler piping is satin black and looks stock if you don't know any better.

I PASSED !!!!Then ten minutes after my dad brought the car to his house/condo in fremont, somebody tried to steal it. The factory alarm actually worked and my dads neighbor saw the lights and when he looke dout the window, the thieves got spooked and ran off. I hope they don't ry it again because I can't go get my baby till next weekend. I wonder I'f I'll be able to sleep at all. At least i passed. One thing off my mind.
 
did you guys do anything special to get the car to pass or did you just put it back to stock?

What about exhaust? did you put your stock exhausts on?
Im putting my car all back to stock, but i want to see if i can pass with my exhaust on there. I do have a 3" cat that has never seen leaded gas so it should be working properly.

Also, where did you go to get your cars smogged, and was it test only? Did they hassle you at all?

Danny, from my experience a freshly rebuilt motor will run cleaner than an older motor, so your 3" cat should be enough. Just make sure you break it in for about 500 miles. Pull the plugs and look at the piston tops, if they're oily/wet you need to put more miles on it. If they're dry then the rings have sealed and it's good to go. Good luck!
 
I've passed with a 2.5" DP, 3" cat and 3" catback, a 190 and an open aircan. There's a nice place out in Mountain View.

Thanks for the advice Dave. I didnt know that about looking at the pistons to see if the rings are sealed yet. I was planning on going in to smog the car after the motor/trans are broken in and before the new mods come on, so it will be fully broke in.

Mahesh, do you remember the spot that smogged you with the exhaust in mountain view? Was it test only? Did you have a sleeper muffler or just a fat can?

Sinist3r, that sounds like a cool place, you should make friends with them and let others know about that spot!

So im going mostly back to stock. THe parts im trying to pass with are : DSMLink, dks 264/272, waldbro 255hp, afpr (the FTS bolton one painted), and an exhaust w/ cat. I think i should be able to pass if they dont care about the exhaust. I didnt want to put on a stock exhaust because i have an evo 3 o2 with a DP made to fit the right angle and its a wierd ghetto custom exhaust thats like welded to the frame in one spot to brace it, so removing it would be a hassle.
 
Actually, my bad that was in Richmond where I passed with the fat Magnaflow and whatnot. I put it back to stock for smog in Mtn. View.
 
i passed with a 150,000 mile engine, big 16g turbo, upper intercooler pipe, bpr7es plugs, boost controller, fuel pressure regulator, full 3" turbo back exhaust among other things. I actually failed the first time. went home, replaced the 91 octane gas for 87 octane and added some rubbing alcohol into the gas tank. retarded the timing and raised the idle a bit to control idling. i also leaned it out a bit with the AFC. passed with flying colors second time around. mechanic was really surprised and kept asking me what i did. told him i fixed an injector that was leaking. haha
 
I "passed" with all my mods(check profile), and a leaky throttle body:sneaky: . Guys, don't give up your smog sources on the board:shhh: . If you know who's asking you for the source, then get your info via PM's. I got mine smogged somewhere over the rainbow...
 
Aiish I just found out that I have to go to a test-only center as well. I've passed at a regular smog center w/ all my mods but with the stock downpipe, the only thing they didn't really like was the mbc and the missing vacuum lines, but I'll hook up the bcs this time around.

So are the test-only stations more strict than regular stations or what? I don't have the stock intake pipe and the upper ic pipe to complete the job, I was wondering if the my black piping will do the job.
 
It's a crapshoot. If yours goes strictly by the book, a Talon can't have even what is legal on Eclipses.

As for going test-only, it's going to become more and more common as the cars are getting older.
 
I passed with all my mods, and how my car looks, on test only. nuff said. if you cant pass, try a different place. ive made threads, replies with more on detail on them. just do a search.

Another tip, don't look like your into hiphop/rap music, or talk like it when you go do your test. haha.

Ummm maybe, you mean the SRT-4 meets that were in San Jose? I went to a few of those but I haven't since.

Oh and I cleared out my inbox. I'm still trying to get a day off to work on my car for my smog.
