Ok so there are many threads on here about converting to AWD. I want to see if I can do this little by little and still drive the car. Is it possible to like do half of it and still be FWD and then when I can have some down down finish it and be AWD?

No.

Well you could possibly do the exhuast swap. Then the subframe and gas tank swap. But, you couldn't really do the gas tank swap before the subframe. I think the FWD subframe would be in the way.

just buy my rolling chassis with everything to do your AWD swap with

Anythings possible but i doubt it...It took over a month with me and my dad and my cousin to do my AWD conversion and that was pretty much non-stop. You could drive your car until you get all the parts your gonna need.

You can do the subframe, rearend, suspension, and fuel tank, and leave the driveshaft and t-case off. And just continue driving on the FWD tranny until you're ready to swap trannys. Then install the t-case and driveshaft.

and the brakes and stuff right? and then do the tcase and driveshaft and then done?

It wouldnt just be the tcase and drive shaft. Youd need to need a new clutch and flywheel as well as a new/awd trany. Also, if you were to do all of that and wait to do the trans ect youd be a couple hundred pounds heavier so your car will be considerably slower. But if your ok with that go for it.

There are tosn of threads on here about converting to AWD. Most of them have complete write ups on how to do it, or a link to a complete write up.

The clutch will be the same....

But aproductions what are you tryin to do with the car? If your gonna drag race it will help ALOT, if its your daily driver and you just wanna have fun leave it a fwd...

What about a complete write up on how to convert to awd while still being fwd? didnt think so...

This is exactly how you will want to do it if you still need to drive it. you can do the whole swap in a weekend though. If you bust your ass and have all the parts.

Sure you can do anything you put your mind to.

HUGE make sure you get the parts from the same year group as your car. the gas tanks and fill necks are different in a 98-99 vs 95-97 it just makes the job easier if they are the same. the fill necks have to go with their respective tanks. examples meaning you cant use your fill neck if you car is a 97 and you are using a 99 gas tank.

Also if your GST has ABS make sure the GSX parts car does also 95% of GSX's have ABS but make sure there are some that dont.

1st get parts car LOL big surprise there
2nd get the parts car apart.
3rd get the drive shaft brackets mounted and the holes cut to get the subframe bolts out and the new ones in.
4th in one good day get a buddy or 2 and drop the rear subframe and gas tank and install the AWD subframe and gas tank. this can be done in one day if you have help. "ensure your FWD gas tank is almost empty this helps greatly"
5th do your tranny swap if you have worked on these cars at all you can swap a tranny in less than a day. then bolt up the tcase and drive shaft.

things you will need:
Angle grinder with cutoff wheels and sanding disks
Mig Welder to close up all the holes you cut
dremel tool with lots of cut off wheels id say at least a good 15 of the good reinforced ones.

spend the first day just reading the procedure over and over 4-5 times, and then getting under both cars and going over the procedure. get yourself familiar with both setups and the differences.

Take Lots of pictures of the AWD car before and during dissasembly. this will payoff huge if you get stuck.

hope this helps and people that cant answer a mans question SHUT UP and stop replying why and you should just do this instead. DON'T BE A DICK "DICK"

Right. You can do pretty much do everything in the back half of the car and just leave the driveshaft out for now.

well I am going to have a 400-450whp car, would FWD cut it? or should I really do the AWD swap
You'll definitely want AWD at that power level. Trust me. ;)

So I know I need a 98 or 99 GSX but whats with this?

My GST does not have ABS so does the GSX have to not have it either?

True... But the write ups will help him out and give him some ideas on what parts to get and where to get them and when and what order to you can install the parts. Write ups are helpful in any large project.

Just trying to help the guy out, don't be so quick to jump on people's ass about shit.
