I have a 96 AWD Talon. I went to the dragstrip the other week and i'm hooked! It has a descently built tranny but I don't want the rip the center differential or transfer case out of it so im converting it to FWD. I figure this way it will spin before it breaks (most of the time) and my top end power would be better and I would get better gas mileagle since its my DD. My question is what exactly do I need off of a FWD to do this?

I have heard you need the rear hubs off the FWD to be able to take out the shafts..
I have also heard that the cv shafts in the front are different...

I want to do this without any major problems, so if you guys can help me that would be awesome.. stuff like front hubs, cv shafts, flywheel, starter, clutch, mounts, crossmembers, ect.

Also, if anyone has a FWD looking to converting to an AWD PM me, maybe we can work something out as long as your stuff is in good shape also.

Please no negative comments telling me how stupid I am, it's what I want to do. I don't want to sell my car and buy another, I have done too much to mine and its finally the way I want it... -the AWD LOL.

If you'r worried about breaking parts just buy cheap a/t tires.
You won't hook hard enough to break stuff, and you can have major fun in the winter and rainy seasons.

^^I've thought about that but there is still a good chance your going to break something...

Your takin that chance any time you take it down the track.
Whether your FWD or AWD anything can break, also lots of FWD guys break axles.
Plus think of how much your going to spend on tires being FWD, mine was FWD and you can barely controll tire spin after about 12 psi.

+ 1 on that im tired of buying tires!! im thinking about trying an awd conversion next winter

just for reference I have a mirage turbo fwd and with a 16g and 235/40/17 toyo RA-1 (like 60 treadware) I get traction at about 60-65mph before that I just spin from a roll even anything bellow 60= car no go forward. And I go through tires like a hooker through condoms.

also I have blown my tranny about 7 times in the last 8 years. last time i was in fifth on the interstate at 60mph floored it and ripped all of the teeth off of 5th gear. no shifting or power shifting or anythin stupid just flooring it in 5th on the interstate. boom! tranny gone. so If you want a car without any tranny problems there is one that I can think of SupraMKIV turbo. If you have a dsm you will have tranny problems!

Just to be strait I change my tranny fluid every time I change my oil. and at least halfass know what I am doing.
