I am going to rebuild my motor soon and I want some ideas of the way I should go. I want to build a very reliable motor. I have a 6 bolt jdm swap with a spun balance shaft bearing. It also has a blown head gasket. I was looking at building a stocker but I really just am afraid to mess it up again. I want to build a reliable motor, that is fast too. Thanks, Austin.

I would rebuild the bottom end, with new bearings, have the block honed out, with new pistosn and rings. From what i understand the stock 4g63 can handle lots of power and abuse. have the head rebuild, all new gaskets, and if you havent already used ARP head bolts. You want a fast car, upgrade the fuel, turbo, clutch, and tune it. I think you will be happy with the stock engine, and upgrades. Hope this helps.

Fast, reliable....reliable, fast hmmmm. Houston we have a problem.

Strokers can be made reliable street cars as long as you don't want to go faster than a 2.0L pushed to the limits. Limiting the max power will make the engine more reliable, and stroking the 4G63 will provide more torque in the low/mid range. Moving the power band down will make a faster street car even though the quarter mile times are the same.

For a reliable stroker, either remove the balance shafts or maintain them as meticulously as you maintain the main bearings.

Using light weight pistons and rods will pretty much compensate for the higher stresses from the longer stroke and higher piston velocities.

Strokers will tolerate more aggressive cams than the stock 2.0L without suffering so much from low range roughness.

For more (much more) detail please read through http://www.kidzuku.com/StrokeOrNot.pdf.

Eagle Rods, Wiseco Pistons, (you may bore it out if you like) Clevite Bearings, ARP head studs, MLS head gasket, thats a slight build and you would be fine. Or just do a stock build with ARP head studs and an MLS Headgasket.

Currently I'm actually replacing the head and head gasket after an unfortunate timing belt incident. Im going with ARP head studs and an MLS head gasket. I love the way my car drove before the incident and when I pulled the head off I found out my headgasket was LEAKING EVERYWHERE. Always wondered if I screwed up rebuilding it way back in the day becuz I always lost a little bit of oil and coolant. It was nice to finally know what the hell was going on.

It all depends on what your looking to do and and how much you have to spend. Post something up more detailed to those subjects and im sure we can help you decide.

Thanks for the good ideas. Im thinking of just building the motor with forged pistons and rods, definately metal head gasket and new vitron valve seals. I already have the dsm link but I havent got to use it yet. I have a bad feeling that I could mess something up if I built a strocker. This will be my 2nd 4g63t I will build, and I am building my 1st one right now.
