Recently i purchased a near flawless 92 talon 2.0l n/a car for 250$ canadian.
the car needed a transmission.
i had at home a transmission out of my 90 talon es that i am currently changing over to a turbo car.
just for sh!ts and giggles i pulled the 92 transmission and put my 90 transmission remembering the whole time that everyone on this board says that the linkages are different and the swap wont work. i took the car out after i was finished and it drives great! no grinding no nothing its perfect and it is definetely a 90 trans. it worked well in my 90 too.
now im wondering if i can put a 91-94 trans in my 90....
anything i may have missed about why this shouldnt have worked??
im happy it worked im just confused as to why everyone said it would not....

thanks.

could be because of how you did the shifter cables and adjusted. post pics of the linkage setup. would be nice to see

more power to you. anything can be done with a dsm the possibilities are endless dsm people are so creative compared to camaro people.

It's one of those things that works one way but not the other. If you pop off the cover around the shift knob and look inside you should see a rubber stopper about halfway between the shifter pivot and the bottom. Normally that stopper will just lightly touch the front or back wall when in gear. It's there so you don't push the shift forks too far and wear stuff down inside the trans. Now that you changed trannies I think you'll find the rubber stopper doesn't do it's job anymore. There should be some extra clearence between the stopper and the wall. I could be wrong. Maybe the difference isn't big enough to worry about, but I would still check it.
