I was coming back from work today. I had a long day 11-8pm. Anyways i was just cruising back and this fool with a 6 cylinder mustang with a dual exhaust starts driving like his car is somewhat fast. Anyways i was looking more towards the way of the C5 with an exhaust. Anyways the C5 sees me and tries to get me going. So to show off a bit i dropped it into second and did a quick pull and hit rev-limiter (DOH!) on accident. I wasn't paying attention and it shot a huge flame out of my exhaust and backfired. It only bounched off it once but it left a pretty big cloud of smoke and flames out of the exhaust which the Vette seemed to enjoy. Anyways we're going down the road and it's just me and the vette he drops it into gear first and then so do it. BTW i knew he would whoop my ass since i'm still on the t25. So i went into 3rd and suprisingly enough my front bumper was just behind his front right fender until about 6k in 3rd gear then he started walking. Anyways i went to go into forth and (DOH!) went into 2nd. I felt like stopping my car, getting out and repeated beating the crap out of my self. I've heard of people doing that but never have done it for myself. Luckily my motor was fine it didn't act funny at all. I didn't get to see what rpm it hit b/c it just tapped it for a split second. But either way i think it probably went 9k or more. So to make long story short i was tired and needed to release a bit of aggression from an aggrivating day at work but I really didn'y want to abuse my car. I baby the thing often. So i'll probably need a new motor soon enough.

Try getting a heavier shift knob, it might help. I have the Greddy Counterweight shift knob ($36 at extremepsi.com) and it shifts solid with the Energy Shifter Bushings.

OR, you could get an AUTO!! :D

hehe... Don't sweat it man! Everyone has rough days and can't think (or shift) straight! Good luck next time.

Thats some funny shit bro. LOL!!!

More like ...down shift to Auto. ROFL

Well i hope my motor is ok and I didn't stress out anything. My motor has been amazing since i've bought the car. I feel so lucky that i bought a good dsm. I change the oil religiously ever 3k with mobil one and a mitsu filter. I seem to think my car is a freak because yeah it has 83k and it's still on the stock turbo but it still holds it's own the street and it is reliable as a honda. I guess most motors would have probably bent a few valves or messed up a rod or two in my situation but i hope i didn't burn out the rings or stress out my valve springs too much.

Revving to 9 grand isn't a bad thing to do.

Not suggesting you do it constantly, but plenty of people do it with no problems.

my 3rd to 4th shifts go a little something like this,....

the gearbox nuetrals over 4th and under 3rd, so all i do is put the clutch in and push straight back with only my index finger and middle finger... if you push straight back it will go into 4th... then for fifth i just make sure im ALL the way over and i never miss it...also our cars have that wont go into first gear over 20 mph or so, so you dont have to worry about the BIGGEST gear ratio difference (2nd to 1st...) unless your going so slow that it wouldnt matter at all...

Plan on not doing that anymore...

When my friend first purchased his Vtec Del Sol, he dropped it into second trying to downshift into 4th.. It was the loudest and longest grinding w/ smoke i ever saw...

You could of done worse. :toobad:

A member since Dec of 2002 and you don't know that street racing is frowned upon here? :nono:

I did the same thing to my car just after buying it. I was passing some slow traffic and another guy pulled out in front of me to pass. I hit the brakes and then went to downshift into 4th and hit 2nd. My car shimmied like a hoola dancer and screamed at me, the clutch hit the floor and this horrible grinding noise started. I just about threw up. I couldn't get the pedal back up and I had to shift without a clutch until I got into town and could pull the car over. The whole time I was worried I'd destroyed my new car. It was making this horrible noise all the way down. I had to walk the rest of the way to work and spent all day flipping out. It turned out that the flywheel pin had popped out and was ratlling around inside the bell housing. I had just replaced the clutch and I apparently hadn't tightened the bleeder valve enough so it just pushed it loose and dumped all the fluid on the highway. Scared the shit out of me though. It also helped me to discover that the transfer case bearings and gears were toast and had to be replaced as well as the bearings in the tranny. No relation, just found everything that was worn out. It probably saved me from locking up my transfer case and might have saved my life. When I took it apart half the roller bearings were gone or spun sideways. Pretty crazy.
