i was getting the tcase recall done, and i took a prybar and pushed between the crank pulley and it moved outwards. Pushing it inwards it moved also the slightest bit. Crank pulley looks okay but its hard to tell i know those usually go bad, but idk this day sucks if i have it.

A small amount of movement is completely normal. To put your mind at ease, have the endplay measured and get back to us with the results. Most people who think they have a walking motor really don't so don't get alarmed about something that may not be an issue. I'd also inspect the harmonic balancer to make sure that it's not separating and moving on it's own. If it's not making rattling noises from the crank trigger being scraped and the pedal isn't dropping to the floor on a left turn I'd say that you can relax pending that endplay measurement.

Keep us posted,

Andy

always with the fast responses andy, your awesome =) Yeah i will get it measured, but the thing that scares me is one of the techs there said it is indeed walking very slowly. But who knows for sure without the measurement and inspection of the crank pulley. I will post up further results.

Which dealer are you having the recall done at???

I wanted to take mine in but Napleton Mitsu in park ridge (formerly Tom Noe's) just said "it doesn't apply to your vehicle" LOL, anyway. Let me know cause I need to get mine checked out.

Thanks:thumb:

Keep in mind that the late 98 and all 99 blocks were equipped with a revised split thrust crank bearing that was more resistant to walk. Mine was one of these so I rebuilt it and it showed a build date of July 97. I'm not sure when the cutoff was for the switch to the revised bearing but you may want to ask Mitsu to be sure. While these don't eliminate walking (nothing does really in a piston motor) you can ask anyway for your own personal knowledge.

If it is indeed walking very slowly you can continue to drive it until it finally lets go and have another block prepped and ready on the side. Most people don't get a warning but if you are, now is the time to be proactive about it and prepare a new bottom end.
