Just had to tell everyone about new goodies. I got supra sidemount ic. stuff to convert to 2g mas and these are what I am really smiling about. DSM LINK AND 20G TURBO!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok I'll quit yelling. This is quite possibly the best day of my life. I am living in a cardboard box now in order to afford them. but thats ok. Well thats it I just wanted to gloat. hehe :D

What do you mean by that. I got a buddy with the same setup running 12.40's. The supra ic is good for 450 hp and surely you cant have a problem with the 20g. So why dont you tell me what is wrong with my setup.

with a 20g at its full potential u might want something a bit bigger than a sidemount, sure its "good" for 450 HP, but that is at its max. You could probably pick up some good horses and lower ur intake charges better with a full front mount. Just cause something is good for something it doesnt mean that its made for it.

a 14b turbo "CAN" support a 450 WHP dsm, it doesnt mean that if u want 450 whp u should get a 14b, there are easier ways :)

Nothing's "wrong" w/ your setup. It will work.

But the supra sidemount dealing effectively w/ 450 hp is kinda like saying

-The t-28 is capable of 350 hp
- The 16g is capable of 400+ hp
- You can run high 11's on a 14b
- High 10's are possible w/ stock motor internals
- You can make 500 hp on a stock 6 bolt block etc.......

Sure people w/ lots of effort/money and the wind blowing at their backs have done it, but it doesn't means its a good reason to run a supra sidemount over a more efficent and better flowing solution. Colder air, more airflow, less pressure drop will always be seen as a plus. Your knock sensor will agree.

-EDIT: oops ^^ beat me to it.

Ok first off im not shooting for more than about 425 hp right now anyway. And second, I dont have the money for a front mount i got the supra for 100.00 and between me and darren we can fab it up the right way for 50 to 75 bucks in materials so that is under 200.00 for an intercooler that is still 100 percent better than the stock smic. And third I like the sleeper look and nothing kills that look more than a big shiny intercooler. But just for the record my buddy who runs 12.20's had a br front mount intercooler and when he was going down the highway one day a truck had a blowout and the tire came under his car killed his front mount and his new fluidyne radiator. the car ran a best of 12.26 with that set up. Well he couldnt afford another fmic so that is when he did the supra smic. He was out at the track this weekend with a best of 12.28. I know there comes a time that a front mount is needed but I think the supra smic would get you into the elevens maybe not far into it but still there. I know one day I will want to go faster and when that time comes ill sell the supra smic for at least what i paid for it and by a fmic but right now this is more than adequate for running low 12's

Nice parts. Don't worry about what they say about the supra sidemount. I should know. I have a supra. There are guys running 11's on them and they are great smic's for a stock part. Sure a fmic might be better. But your on a budget and for under 200 bucks you are really picking the right part. I sold my smic to my bud to put on his dsm. I a building a budget dsm myself.

Keep us updated. That supra part should do the job just fine!

im one of those guys who has hit 11's on a 14b and a supra sidemount...let me tell you, you will love the Supra SMIC. you will have much less pressure drop with it, unlike a FMIC, although after running it hard for an extended amount of time it WILL heat soak with a 20g turbo. ive done that combo before and had fairly good luck with it. use alcohol injection and you will be fine! here is the setup i ran my low 12's with (on pump gas!), the times i ran with 110 octane and the time i ran 110/nitrous were crazy fast, but my goal was to hit 12s on pump gas, so here it is. with my 1991 GSX i ran 12.2 @ 113. it included: prothane motor mounts, stock rebuilt bottom end, balance shaft eliminated, arp head studs, mitsu metal HG, ported exhaust manifold, ported 14b turbo w/ MBC set at 22psi, ported 02 housing, 3" turbo back exhaust, 1G MAS hard intake, hacked MAS, supra sidemount intercooler w/ hard modified upper and lower piping, 255 lph high flow fuel pump, FPR, FIC 650cc ball/disc type injectors, SAFC, logger w/ laptop in car, ACT 2600 clutch w/ street disc, SS clutch line, shifter plate bushings, shep racing tranny, 1994 big brake conversion, delete power steering, removed sound deadening material, alot of other weight reduction (still with full seating area though) and some gauges to monitor it all.

what are u on dude, how could a bigger front mount not be better? Sure if u have too much intercooler and not enough turbo ur gonna lose power and just rob spool time from the piping, but on a 20g at its full potential u WILL need a bigger intercooler to cool the air faster, so a bigger ic will be necessary. i dont understand why a front mount would "MIGHT" be a better choice?

I swear reading this thread is slowly retarding me.

First off, nothing is wrong with running a TD05-20G turbo on a Supra sidemount. Is it the most efficient way? No, but it doesn't mean it wont be efficient enough to handle 20G power. Its all depends on your goals, budget, and preference. I actually think the Supra sidemount idea is a nice sleeper way to go (not so much my style, but quite a wake up call for someone not expecting it). Get a nice set of 2½" mendrel-bent IC pipes with T-bolt clamps and proper couplers, and you'll have yourself a nice setup that should be able to handle all that 20G can throw at it.

If your running a TD06-20G setup, you may push the limits of that MKIV SMIC, but I think you'll be fine either way. I have experience with the MKIV SMIC on 14B's and small/big 16G's. It did just fine on all three of those turbo's, and I'm sure it can handle a 20G.

You are crazy. I guess you missed the part where he said that he is on a budget. Not everyone has the means to throw a fmic on their car. The guy wants to have some fun, and for less that 200 bucks installed, the MKIV smic IS THE BEST option. If it isn't, then please show me an intercooler(smic OR fmic) that performs better for the money. AND for the record, the mkiv smic core IS proven to perform better than the greddy smic core. Test can be seen at www.supraforums.com. A fmic is what people generally prefer, but there are even problems seen with these, as not enough air reaches the radiator to cool the car. He is on a budget, so it can be assumed that he is not a avid racer becuase he does not have the means to repair broken parts and be without a car. Meaning that the chances of his intercooler heatsoaking are very slim, especially over the winter. With this being said, the mkiv smic WILL suffice until his income can provide him with the fmic you so rudely made it clear you think he should have.

With all this being said, get off my balls. ;)

And for the record, the fmic is not generally thought of to "add" hp over the smic(if both are within the intercooler's efficiency - not being heatsoaked). Power is gained through the change to hardpipes, keeping the charged air from leaking through the old brittle rubber hoses.
