i need many questons answered please

well i went to go check out the 1g gsx i was going to buy and i am not sure if i am going to buy it anymore. the battery was dead so i took it the other day and had it charged. i disconected the fuel pump reley from the battery and turned the car over a few times to get some oil pressure. reconnected the reley/fuse for the fuel pump and the car started after turning over for a few seconds. the car was sitting for about a year. oil smells fine the coolant isnt milky or smell funny. well here is a list of the bad things.

#1. i went to hit the breaks and a line popped in the rear. not sure if it was the hard line or rubber hose.
#2. exhaust is rusted from pretty much the o2 housing back.
#3. rear subframe is rusty including mounting points.
#4. rear diff is really rusty.
#5 some rot in the door frame. there is a whole were the door switch is 5inch whole.
#6. shifter does not move out of nuetral 1-2 or 3-4 not sure what gear it is stuck between. it does not move left to right in nuetral.
#7. oil lines for turbo seemed pretty rusty.

i am not sure how many of these things are going to be a problem do to rust but i know the break lines should be replaced. all 4 calipers/rotors and break lines from the hard lines. will need replacing. the motor turned over like it was running the day before. barely any smoke was coming out of the exhaust and it held a real good idle.

please help me make up my mind. the guy is only asking $500. for the car and it makes it hard to turn down. how much can i sell the motor for if the chasis becomes to much to fix? any and all info would be great. thank you again.

I would say yeah if you want a parts or project car.

I would pass, the rust is a big issue and the #1 thing i look for ina 1st gen... or any car for that matter...

Around here there are a few $500 1g AWD shells that have no rust so i doubt this is your only chance

well im kinda hoping it is only the rear subframe/controle arms that are rusty and not the actually mounting locations to the shell. as for the breaks and exhaust i just got some prices together and it isnt that bad. the worse part is that the car started right up and idles fine barely any smoke came out of the exhaust. has anyone ever heard of the shifter not moving left to right in nuetral? could the shifter be frozen or more likely the transmission screwd up. any and all help is apreciated. one last thing how much are 1g 6bolt engines going for? including transmission and xfer case. turbo 5spd ecu all that? if i could sell the motor for more then 500 then it is kinda worth my time to pull it if the chasis is beyond repair.

Ive seen complete engines with transmission & ecu go for $1500 so...

If its just the subframe/control arms thats rusted... i would get it.. since it comes with a running motor..

everyone upgrades exhuasts so the fact that its rusted means squat..

So it the shifter won't move at all? You can't get it into any gear? Sorry but I couldn't really understand your post.

the shifter moves freely up and down but not left to right. it may be stuck between 1st and 2nd gear or 3rd and 4th gear. but it will not move from left to right in nuetral. it only moves up and down into one of the gear sets above.

well this is becoming a headache. i want to drive this car within the ext month since i need a dd for work. i priced out some parts and its going to cost me over 500 on the cheap end and thats not including towing it to and from th mechanics. or his fees. im kinda limited on cash since im unemployed for atleast another month. i dont want to be putting all my money into a car that is going to be too rusty to even have a good place to start. im going to sleep on it one more night but please feel free to convince me one way or another.
