So like the title says I need to fabricate or find a dual alternator bracket (or somebody that has/can make one) for my 420a eclipse. My one mechman alternator just isn't cutting it on my new setup for this year so I'm just trying to figure this out. I appreciate any help.

I honestly don't know about sourcing the bracket as a "standard" item, but, most machine shops will be able to fab something for you if you show them what you are up to. I don't think it would be too hard to make the plate yourself once you know how much space you'll have to play with. Im not too familiar with the 420a engine bay so take this or leave it.

dual battery or dual alternator what is need for each - DSM Forums: Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser, and Eagle Talon Forum: DSMtalk.com

Just did a quick search and found the link above. A higher power alt may be the way to go instead if space is limited.

And I just searched mechman and it looks like you tried that already... sorry.

I can't go any higher on my alt, it benched just under 300 amps, but thanks for the link i'll check it out and yea I guess I might have to find a machince shop around here

edit: yea that thread is helpful but I really am crazy with this stuff and it won't be silly for my application LOL

oh sorry I totally forgot to list what i'm actually running so you guys can see I am pulling ALOT of current, my new box will be 3 DC Audio 15" level 5 subs, powered by 2 DC Audio 5k amps (might try 3 if I can squeeze a second alt in) so i'm drawing roughly 1200amps and my battery space is limited as the box takes most of my space, thus why i'm trying to run 2 alternators as my class in my organization the metering is done with the car on and rev'd to 2000rpms at most. I really appreciate the fact you guys are trying to help, I figured I would get flamed for asking about something to help my stereo on a mostly performance forum haha

thats a 420a 300 amp alt... they don't list it on their website, you gotta send them an e-mail. i'm sure if you e-mailed them and said "hey i need a bigger alt then 300 for a 420a, what can you do for me?" they'll work it out for you. the 300 amp one is about $450

Kinda a tall order to find one. Also, a tall order to fit it in on the backside of the engine bay (where the stock is located). You may be better off trying to put one in on the front side of the engine. Ideally, where the AC unit is. Do you still have AC?

The bracket is doable, but it would be a pure mock-up and fabricate. And boy, with that kind of draw, I would hope that you upgrade lots of wires, LOL.

thanks for the idea, yea I'm definately going to have to go with some type of adapter on the a/c bracket, heck I should be able to work that one out myself, and yes I still have a/c at the moment but I have no problems pulling it out to fit a second alternator :thumb:

And I have 2 runs of 1/0 Shok industries cca wire for my positive on my current alt and 2 more runs off the negative post on the alt. So if I get two i'll end up with 8 runs total....and several broken windows LOL they go out too easy as it is

yea that looks like it has alot better fitment than my current alt as far as the stock location goes so i'm definately going to call them, but i'm sure the rating is about the same as my one now, I do believe it benched 280ish amps...but thanks for opening my eyes to them I know several guys running them with great success I just didn't realize how much better the brackets are.
