I need advice.

Ok well first off i want to say that i have searched this site and many other sites about this and i cant get a straight answer anywhere, But i feel like im.

Ok well i just got a hks ssqv and the recirc fitting to replace my leaky 2g bov. After installing it, i started getting compressor surge/flutter. Now i have read alot of threads and most of them people are 50/50 in there posts. Half say "that is not compressor surge" and the other half say it is. Well my question is, Should i put the leaky 2g bov back on to get rid of it? Or is there a way to maybe change the vac routing to help it. Also i took off the recirc hose and revved with my hand on the bov and NO AIR CAME OUTWTF and i heard the fluttering coming from the air filter with no recirc hose on!! So this has to be the compressor surging, So is there a way to get the bov to open? This video shows what mine does not do!

Also i switched out the ssqv for a buddies 1g bov and i get the same flutter, But i get ZERO with the stock bov. i dont understand..........

Well it looks like your bov is not working right if no air is be released. I would say switch back to the stock one. It is better than getting compressor surge.

Yes a boost leak is much better considering compressor surge causes your turbo to spin in the other direction, which will damage your turbo.

Well i am officially stumped. Every single BOV besides my stock 2g one gives me compressor surge. Is it the vaccume maybe? I tried a 1g bov, ssqv, Tial, and a turbo XS and they all surge like crazy even at 14psi. I dont understand. I am never going to be able to get a fmic or upgrade my turbo with a stock bov. I need some answers because I know the BOV's work, They are on my friends cars and they work fine. I think for some reson the vac is not pulling open the piston far enough. Anyone have any ideas?

Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? Whats it reading for vaccum at idle?

10-12 at idle.

It should be more like 20-22. Do a boost leak test and check for vacuum leaks.

Yes thats you problem your vaccum is way to low. Build yourself a boost leak tester and get that leak fixed.

Wow 20-22?!?!?! I did a BLT a while back and found some leaks at the TB. But it was not that bad and i still get to 14 psi and hold it pretty good till redline. I will do antother one to make sure i didnt spring a new leak. So would TB seals and gasket cause my VAC to be so low? Should i go through and replace some vac lines since there over ten years old now?
Also My car runs great, Idle is at 700 and its smooth as can be.

Do a boost leak test, but spray everything down with soapy water. That will make it really easy to pin point your leaks. I actually hold anywhere from 17-20 vaccum at idle on my car with no leaks.


You could also look into doing this to get rid of some of those vaccum lines.

Ok did a new BLT. Same results, Only from the tb. Would TB seals and gaskets cause low vac?

Yes, they can cause low vacuum. Even if they couldn't they would still need to be fixed.

Yeah, call a Mitsubishi dealership if you have one in your area. Thats where online shops get them, and then you wont have to pay their markup and shipping. Heck you should call a dealership anyways and see if they can ship it directly to you, it would still probably be cheaper.

No no no, dont go to the dealership. You can get them at your local hardware store for very cheap. There anywhere from 20 cents to a dollar then. This is the size you are looking for.
