I NEED A Split CV BOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any one know of a place or shop that sells Split CV BOOT for a 99 GSX im in need of one.. i have found the normal CV boot but that is way too much work for me being in school n all. i really need some help thanks!

If you find one, buy three or four. Every one of those things I've seen lasted a week and was back to being "split" again.

I'm surprised they still make them, actually.

Last time I looked Rockauto.com sells them.

Just how bad is your boot? Are you going to clean out the grease and put new stuff in? If the tear is small, you might be able to carefully patch the tear with some silicone until you can take the time to fix it right (new solid boot).

Make sure you remember to order a packet of grease. Not all CV boots come with it for some reason.

I'm in the process of replacing my boots as we speak, not a very tough thing to tackle... I had to order the new boots from the local autoparts store, they even came with grease! All I need to do is find the time. I am in the process of a engine install so there is no rush.

Autozone, Checker or Advanced Auto sell them.

I just did one and if you are careful with the glue and give it enough time to set before you drive it you should be fine. But all that said it's still a PIA to do.

I would NEVER replace a boot. Shafts are so cheap right now, there is no reason to skimp on replacing JUST a boot. By the time you realize the boot is split, it has already purged most of the grease out of it, and the joint will fail. You can replace the shaft with much less work than replace a boot, and you should NEVER use a split boot to fix a split boot. Doesn't make any sense to me!

ok guys so i made up my mind not to get a split boot becuz it would seem to come back out of plcae... so im getting new ones and OEM but whats making me made is how much work ima spend doing this... -_-

You'd probably be even more mad if your CV locked up and your car went off the road. You should get a new axle, it's easier to replace than a boot, and $75-100 more expensive.

It keeps getting harder to find split boots for many reasons, primarily because the prices of rebuilt shafts are so low. Depending on your state, most auto stores won't sell them because they won't pass state inspection.

With all that said, I would suggest just getting an axle. It will save you headaches on the long run.

Years ago used a split boot on one of my cars lasted about a week and came apart. they are junk either get a solid boot or as I would get a new cv-alxe.

well i really havent been driving the car around since i saw that the boot was split.. i caught it the day of becuz all of this greese was all over my tranny... and i been putting in more and more greese... so i think the axle is still working.

But wouldnt you be pissed to do all this work fixing the boot for the dam axle to turn around and fail on you a month later? I understand it would be nice to just replace the boot and go but, for peace of mind I would go ahead and replace the axle.

Naysayers, every one of you.

I've been running a split boot on my ds axle for months with no issues. It's lasted through many third gear WOT pulls and lots of random Canadian weather. I was very diligent installing it. There is no reason that it wouldn't pass a safety inspection as it is packed with cv grease and cinched with cv clamps.

go to autozone buy a split boot (universal) shorten it to tighten it and use your own zip ties etc works way better then there small screws, and it will last ! dont put to much grease as at high speeds it will expand and blow out .

haha alright sounds good... i go for a cv boot and if anything goes wrong the axle it is...
