I just did a compression check, what do you think?

On my 90 gsx that broke down the other day ( i think head gasket)

I did a compression check, looking at the motor, from left to right

150/150/120/145

The motor was supposedly rebuilt about 15-20K ago. While i have the head off should i put some pistons in also? Or could the 120 be where the gasket is blown?<<(just though about that)

That 120 is pretty close to the service limit. I'd do a leakdown test on all four, or you could simply re-do the compression test on that cylinder after dropping in a capful of motor oil. If the compression comes up, it's likely leakdown from the rings. If not, I'd drop in a new head gasket and see what that does since you had plans to do so anyway.

i did the exact same thing and after a couple of miles come to find out its my headgasket. its not to bad it just sounds like a leak on your exhaust. nasty noise with the lack of power. before you regret it change it more than likely its just your headgasket. good luck with that

Im still deciding if i want to upgrade it while i have it apart. I mean it would be a good time, thats for sure.


Im sitting down with my g/f in a bit to look on ebay and other places for some parts, ill post the list i look up and price later on a new thread.
