The car ran good for weeks then on a trip it died. its fouling plugs with black carbon. And it just runs real bad now. have good compression, timing good, just replaced fuel filter, tested pump, put on junkyard pressure regulator , car starts and will run if you keep on the gas but still runs like crap. please any ideas??? oh and runs ok for like half a min to a min if you let it sit for a while. then starts with a heavy miss. :banghead:

Is there exhaust coming out the tail pipe. Like if you have a cat is it possible it plugged up on your trip.

after i got it towed home i dropped my cat back and had just down tube still ran the same. some one told me to check the pump relay but i still have to look it up real fast. but the line is open i blew it out with a compressor. but i know there is no vacume leaks or anything and was running good at the begining of the trip then then on the way home it died after a 4 hr meeting on the drive home.

I take it you're not showing any CEL's? Cheapest things first, I would change the plugs, would probably use the BPR6ES gapped to 28.

Ok, thanks for the advice. So it sounds to me like you're saying it's probably not the pump relay because I don't have a CEL, right? would be nice.

I'll take a look at those plugs. Can a car run for a while with bad plugs cause this was a pretty sudden thing. I down shifted to go up a hill and just lost all power. I got those Boches that they said you dont gap but they still may not be right for this car. I really want to drive that thing!! LOL

If changing plugs doesn't solve the problem, it may be your 02 sensor. Before replacing it I would try and borrow one from a friend. I Hate spending money just throwing parts at a car.

Ya got brand new ecu off dsm chips.com NOT REFURBISHED. new and an upgraded chip at dsmchips.com. go check it out they are called his mint line of ecu's. but that better not be bad!! LOL. but i havent got to check the o2 sensor yet because every time i stop at autozone i forget about that. but ya i will check them tomorow if i can get a ride to the parts store haha:hellyeah:

just put in a new/junkyard MPI relay and same thing. on first time getting car to run it runs good not right but good i had to hold the gas for a minute to get it to idle on its own which is ok since i have fiav bypassed. so i got it to idle pretty well ran aroudn front to mess with idle a hair then got back in and touched the gas and it stalled out or cut out or something. then when i started it again it ran like crap all of a sudden again. i am going to dissconect the ecu over night and try it agian. if i get the same patern then i am goin to start thinking the injectors are tripping the mpi when i thouched the gas and after that the ecu knows and jumps into open loop?? PLease help. 2 weeks walking so far. LOL

I know it sounds stupid, but have you moved any wires around? A bad ground will cause all sorts have trobles.

when I first got the car i did re-terminate a few plugs that had cracked wires. and i had to ghetto rig the alt-wire to the alternator since the stud broke off. but it ran fine for a while. till that trip. but um it seemed like it was running good today for a minute untill i touched the gas. and if fouls plugs with black soot and i get black smoke "gas smoke" its a rythmic miss to its like two in a row. pop,pop.... pop, pop.

Check your coil pack, and transistor. If its a constent, poping, misfire, you may have dropped a coil or power transister. Get a friend to keep it running while you get a long pair on pliers and pull out each plug wire indavidualy. See wich cylinders are missfiring. If it corasponds accordingly to the coils, then they are most likely bad. Try it and see what you come up with.

here's a lil test that you could do to check if it's misfiring, because thats what it sounds like to me. Grab some wire and a testlight. Take the sparkplug wires off the plugs and run the wire up the boot along side the sparkplug wire. Make sure u have a small piece sticking out the top, an inch or so. Now when it is done to all the plugs start the car. Then with the testlight, ground out the lil clamp and touch the lil bit of wire sticking out with the testlight. Now if it bogs dow when u touch the wire then it means that u have a good running cylinder....if it doesn't bog down then that the problem cylinder. Now it could be a bad plug...wire...injector or u may have a burnt valve (carbon buildup on the back of the valve keeping it open and not allowing compression, for those who don't know what it is)

You know... I would agree with the miss-fire... but I had a similar instance with my NT...

It wouldn't start... sounded horrible when it did.. and when it did start, if I even TAPPED the gas... it died immediately.

It was my Intake. Check for Intake Leaks.. Check your MAF plug. Hell, check your MAF.

>> Trying to suggest cheap possibilities first. This may be way off, but at the same time, it's just as relevant. A bad MAF could case too much or not enough AIR... causing build-up...missfire...poor idle...or no start...

I will check maf today. oh and update the starter sounds like it either has a dead spot or the starter relay is going cause the starter itself looks BRAND NEW. and some times it just clicks like it isint gettign good power. i have no idea but i am just goin to try all the stuff you guys said and hope i get a result. wish me luck everyone LOL!!!
