I get 18psi with stock turbo. Should i add a boost controller to reduce boost to 15PS

I was getting 11 always untill I put on my 1g bov! 16 then drops fast to 15 and holds for sec. till it dumps off to like 12.

well, the good news is that there is a chance that the dealership that i bought the car from might help cover the cost of this repairs. they are drafting up estimates and will call me tomorrow. i am afraid that the thrust bearing will need to be replaced and who knows what else. the funny thing is the manager just asked me if i did any upgrades to the engine. NOPE. i havent done anything except the upgraded bov and air intake. thats it. Crossin my fingers and praying :)

If this boost controller reacts faster than the current one then yes it should get rid of the spike. In the example above the 1g BOV doesnt leak, the t25 spools super fast, and the stock boost control system is no longer fast enough to control it. So a boost controller can fix it. In my case the profec did a fine job. It did take some time though to dial in the spke. The t25 just spooled so fast...

Korean does the bad thrust bearing make noise when you push the clutch in(a ticking noise) but stop ticking when you let clutch out??

Thats very possible. Its the crank angle sensor plate hitting the sensor. At this point you've at least .030 or so of play, and the motors life can be counted in days.

Hmm. .012 isnt too bad, but its easily enough to have worn the thrust bearing right down to the backing material, which means the crank is gone. Mine was at .009... But you never know... :) Good luck.

oic. how bad was ur crank when it was at .09? did u ahve to replace the crank or just the thrust bearing? see, the crank sensor was replaced in aug 01, and may of 02. they said it could cost as much as 2400. i dunno. i hope not :(

koreanpersuasio: I have a Turbo XS manual boost controller and my PSI is set at 15. While installing it was a total hassle, I am glad that I have it because I don't seem to have a problem with creep. I hold at 15 pretty steady.

I also have to echo the opinion about the EGT gauge. I got an Autometer, pyrometer and have found that it is a good way to have an accurate idea of what is going on with the engine. A solid number is better than blinky lights from what I can tell.

Good luck with the crankwalk problem. I hope everything works out for you!

hey, thanks for all the info guys/girls :) I am awaiting the managers call today. I was told yesterday by another manager that they would only pay $300 of the total cost. i said there was no way that this was acceptable. So then i spoke with the owner of the dealership and he said he would double it...but thats still not good enough for me. They estimated the repairs at $2400.
