I feel very dumb asking this

I got a test pipe from RNR and it's two pieces. Does it have to be welded after I fit it into place?

If you mean the two flanges are freely moving on the testpipe, then you are fine. Just put a gasket inbetween and bolt it up. Granted if you are going back and forth from test to cat. Just keep the gaskets for the cat install and you don't absolutely NEED them for the test. Just torque it down.

Sidenote: I like the new sig Chris!

I swear. It's two pieces. It's one pipe inside another like a telescope. I thought it was weird but it does make sense I guess. It will allow me to fit the test pipe in perfectly by expanding it to the exact length. But do I need to weld it shut once I've sized it?

take a pic and add it to your photo here on tuners.

To be honest I have NEVER seen this before. But there is a first for anything!:shhh:

 now i see what you are talking about when you say like a telescope. Yea i would just have them weld a seal on that puppy once you get it installed.

That's not that bad of an idea. Makes it easy as hell to install.

and my sexy 3" downpipe(that it took me three weeks to get) just for the fun of it

I hope your not referring to adding "parts not installed" in the gallery... OMG

I thought it was installed already. I thought he was asking if he did it right cause it looked funny!OMG

Looks like a slip fit. You can weld it, but then it is final. Just make sure you have it exactly were you want it.:thumb:

How much should I pay the muffler shop to cut off the end of my Thermal catback and make a new flange to fit the test pipe?

However much they want? :p

To do just that, I would charge someone 30 dollars. But what do I know, I'm probably way underpriced.

original poster: go to napa and get an exhaust clamp for 3 dollars.

That is what I would do. Every slipfit system uses them so why NOT.:thumb:

my testpipe is the same setup, mine is clamped.
I would suggest clamping it first to get the right fit, then get it welded.
Even though mine has been clamped for over 2yrs, i'll weld it someday maybe :)

here's on OK pic of mine, but you get the idea
