I was driving down the highway goin about 80 when I went to downshift from 5th to 4th but inbetween shifts the car stalled and when I jamed it into 4th it made this big boom sound (im guessing from the motor jumping to a start). after that i had this ticking/grinding sound that goes faster and lower with the rpm's. I aslo noticed that im blowing blue smoke out the back end now....=(. Can anyone tell me what I'm looking at?

Blue smoke out the tailpipe means that engine oil is entering the combustion chamber and is burning out of the exhaust. Could be a variety of things, maybe worn piston rings or a blown head gasket. A compression test (dry and wet test) and a leak-down test may be good steps to help pinpoint the problem.

How is your oil pressure when this ticking is occuring? Do you know for sure that your low oil pressure light works?

As Woodsy0 posted, blue smoke means burning oil, generally being either your valve seals, head gasket, or piston rings. A leakdown test would be best, but if you don't have access to those tools, do a regular compression test to get baseline compression numbers. Once you have those (going from cyl 1-4 fully warmed up), add a cap full of oil into each cylinder before the test and see if the numbers are affected. If they go up more than 10-15psi per cylinder, I'd say worn rings are your culprit. If your compression numbers are not significantly affected, look at a head job in your future.

When does your car smoke? That will help us diagnose the problem as well.

When i Start the car up right away it starts having all of these symptoms...when i rev it in neutral and try to keep it at 3...it starts fluxuating which is telling me that oil has to be leaking in somehow due to the bluish shade of smoke comming out of the exhaust...The noises however is what is concerning me the most...before this happened i was getting a little bit of noise from those damn balance shafts...and when this did happened i sounded like it was just a louder version of that...but when obviousely this is happening all the time and it sounds like if its comming from the top of the head...but its not a consistant sound...it sounds if like its doing a clanking around/grinding noise. i just hope that something isnt jumping around tearing apart my motor from the inside out.
