So you said that it's the thermostat housing and you told me try to find a new BOV and no LOL I wasn't talking about the cap. I'll send you more pictures on this thread. Let me know where I should take the pictures at and thanks for helping out I'm a newbie.

We are not really sure what you are asking us. The more specific the better, when you have questions. Your bov needs to be recirculated back into the intake pipe, is what Dsmkauai is saying. If you are asking what the rusty colored stuff all over is, you need to see where coolant is leaking from and also see what the coolant inside the engine looks like. It would appear to be rusty as hell and you need to do a real good flush on the cooling system.

300??? I'll buy it from you for 400! Lol. But in all seriousness, I would go through the car with a fine tooth comb before you actually put your life into the integrity of the car and drive it because for 300 dollars who knows what's wrong with it. Great find though!

please exclude these thumbnails I messed up and clicked on it while I was uploading these pics from my phone. You guys are telling me that the BOV may need to be changed around and it could be a coolant leak that caused all this? And could this mean a blown head gasket too?

the cooling system looks to be compromised and most of it looks like it need replaced, the question is why did it do it?? sticking thermostat ? or blown head gasket? I would check the oil make sure it doesn't look like coffee to make sure it didn't blow a gasket and I also would do a compression test just to be sure my gut tells me it probably had a thermostat stick and over heated blowing coolant out the cap judging by the photos its corroded and all needs cleaned, do your self a favor and clean all gunk you can the best you can flush multiple times with water and go get coolant system flush and run it for awhile and flush again get it out of the block and head best u can that way also goes with out say all new hoses look desperately needed and don't forget a new thermostat and gasket clean that part the best you can so not to leak and stick and as long as you oil looks good and compression test is good you got a hell of a deal man. and just FYI compression test are easy to run and are good indications of bad rings or gasket, when running a test u want to see pressure around 120-150 psi even 115-130 would be good to but seeing 0-80 or 90 you probably have a problem..

I would order a new water neck, they are only about $25, reason is I don't think the cap will seat properly with all that pitting on the mating surface. I would also remove the t-stat housing and scrape off all that sealant and replace the o-ring on the water pipe with a new one. The book says to not use sealant at all on the t-stat to water pipe. There is also a bolt missing on the t-stat housing. Thats pretty much all that can be seen from the pics provided.

First off due your self a favor and clean off all that old coolant. Next drain the coolant see what it looks like. Drain all the fluids see what they look like make sure they are normal. Your definitly going to have to do a coolant flush. People might say no to this but take your radiator out and poor some gasoline in it and dump it out. That will clean out a lot of the junk in it.

Buy yourself a thermostat, and ecu and all new fluids and see if you can get the car to start. And see what happens and report from there. People chiming in saying cars good for 300hp that is so far from where this car is. Let's get this thing running before talking modding it.

And yes you want to get a bov that can recirculate back to the spot on your intake otherwise the car will run like poop.

how can you guys tell what turbo it is by the pic? the only part of the turbo I can even see is the j pipe ? and a small part of the fold sides side ?

Your honestly just going to have to tear in to that car. See inside the thermostat housing and it being that bad, is not a good thing. I would remove the radiator, water pipe from the water pump and the thermostat housing. Either clean those or just get replacements. My biggest concern is it looks like the coolant was spraying out of the cap which means there was a lot of pressure in the system, more than likely a head gasket. It wouldn't be the worst things to replace the head gasket anyway so you don't replace a bunch of things then have to tear it back apart.

Mineral sprits and or other hard cleaners will work too gasoline is just dangerous and should never be use fr cleaners don't e cheap buy good heavy duty cleaners or mineral sprits parts cleaners they are safer an do a better job I've known ppl who were severely injured using gasoline for things they shouldn't have

How do you guys always seem to say Most likely head gasket or most likely blah blah blah. None of us have enough objective info to state that. Somebody above said lots of pressure so its a head gasket....um the cooling system itself is pressurized and can make a mess that big all on its own.
My point is stop assuming. The op must get some OBJECTIVE data first. We can REASONABLY assume the cooling system needs attention. From those pics it appears thats all we can say at this point about systemic failures.

you could just do a leak down test with a gauge in the thermostat housing where the cap is and see if the pressure goes up. If so then it would point towards the head gasket being the culprit

Op where you located? I got a lot of those parts lying around. Tstat housing. Recirc valve. Ecm. Etc.

does the car crank? start? run? leak. anyway its a steal for $300 just to part it out if nothing else
VR4 I wonder sounds like you have a 3000GT. Which I have one too. But I want to make this a project car and rebuild most of it if I can at all.
