I knoiw it/s old but since we've brought it back up...

I don't understand why garrett and t-netics can get away with the same parts and have them last a long time yet precision uses real garrett parts and they constantly fail.. I woul love to know why this is.

i have a PTE DBBCHRA (started as a PTE6776RS) and has now been converted to a DBB 50 trim with stage III turbine in a .63 a/r housing and uses an "E" cover on the compressor side,. when it was a 67 mm it lasted me a very long time but just wasn't any fun in a FWD car until you got into 3rd gear, so i used some .005 undersized joiurnal bearings and put those wheels andcovers/housigs onto a regular JB CHRA and it's been doing very well for the customer using it and if it weren't for the fact i've got a kick ass holset on my car i'd have the BB 50 trim on there in a heart beat :D The thing would probably spool like an EIII16G and has the airflow to make 450whp when used properly..their BB units seemto have no isues at all UNLES you get the ceramic BB units, i've seen them deformand kill the turbo,so if you're looking into one of their DBB units i'd advise staying away fromthe ceramicbearingunitsand go with good old fashion steel balls :D

Most PTE turbos i've seen come with the restrictor already bolted into the CHRA feed side, which i think is very nice of them and helpful

because they DON'T use Garrett internals, despite the copied "A" stamp that they use. the real "A" symbol is not stamped within the cartridge, it is a raised letter "A". I've gone through so many in Honda, Mitsubishi, Scion, and even Yellowbullet explaining this.

I know that Justin showed a few quality images of their cartridges to show that they were AiResearch products last year, but they are not Garrett cartridges; hadn't been since 2007. Even when I've rebuilt some of them, the sizes of the bearings, and thrust colars are different.. The only thing that Precision shared with turbonetics was mainly their exhaust wheels and compressor housing backplates, and as far as I can recall from the many rebuilds I've done on them, that's as far as the similarity goes.

recently since the Precision's newer "CEA" turbine wheels were released, the problems have now continued in which there is a failure of the turbine housings "burst containment" capability; what this means is that the quality of the exhaust wheel is so bad that as it destroys itself within the turbine volute, the turbine housing, which is supposed to contain the wheel in the event of a catastrophic failure of that magnitude, actually doesn't, as the turbine housing fails as well, causing even more damage.

I am still hopeful that they get their act together, but unfortunately, I don't have that long of a breath to hold.

I stopped coming onto this site from about 2 years ago, because of the continual misconceptions that are going on, but since Justin has a handle on 99% of the cases, there's no reason for me to comment further. But in essence this is why you asked your question..

its cause PTE is a shit company and they tell brand new customers of BB turbos to feed from the OFH or they wont warranty it... and they wonder why so many are blown..... basically their techs dont know their own products / arent helpful at all with anything related to dsm applications

and most likely what shodan said :p

Justin's a great guy but there's always room for more. Don't be gone so long this time. We need people like you.
