Saves weight. According to the guy who built the cage it not any stronger. Chromoly is stronger than mild steel, but since the tubing is smaller it comes out to be about the same strength and its also why it saves weight.

I just picked up a 1g tsi mainly because of the cage def should be a nice build as long as I stay on track

Actually the tech guy told me that they require a bar at 11.49 or 120mph. On my last run i hit 120.xxx. Thats why i could not run anymore.

Thats how it used to be for me, but at my track they require a friggin ROLL CAGE, helmet and fire jacket at 11.90s or faster WTF and being that there are stock vettes and stuff that can run faster than that
So I am going to have to get a cage myself next year, just for a damn 16g car.... I can get it welded at a friends house, I just want the lightest one I can get that still gives decent interior space and is safe and Im going to paint it real nice and put the padding ( in case you bang your head on it or something.)
OP you should at least paint yours.
