ok let me first start with my current mod list:

apexi 3in downpipe, greddy 3 in cat back no cat, greddy upper and lower intercooler piping w/greddy type r BOV.

The bottom end of the motor has been rebuilt with new rods, pistons, and crank.

new bpr7's gapped .35 which should be .28 i know

boost is at about 15 lbs with no boost leaks and it is an auto

WHY AM I SO SLOW???????????

i have a first gen bone stock that walks all over this one.

i raced a stock 91 escort and almost got beat. does anyone know what is going on here?

could i have a faulty knock sensor?

i'll be getting a datalogger in 2 weeks but i really need help now, and thank you for any info and or help in advance. :thumb:

Ok well if youll take advice from a new guy I would suggest getting away from the auto, I had a 05' RSX that would walk all over 15psi eclipse's all day long and it was N/A just the usual intake, exhaust combo (done right of course).

The auto tranny looses power somewhere in the 20% range and has horrible gear ratios. As for any other issues I wouldnt know what might be wrong. But dont feel bad the escort is a civic of ford, can be quick for cheap but never fast nor safe. Was the ford GT or a LX model? my friend is into all those since I sold him my 1.9L LX model (given to me for free with a new HG and IAC I sold it for $800).

Again hope this helps.

edit: oh yeah how do you like the apexi downpipe? im planning an entire new exhaust soon.

Regap your spark plugs. You know something's wrong, so fix it.
I don't see an upgraded fuel pump or AFPR in that list... beware of a lean condition.
Related to the above, you need your logger cable... watch for knock, make sure you're getting a smooth timing advance. If you start knocking (over-lean) it'll pull timing, and you'll slow down.

Beyond all that, (note that those are the basics, and that this doesn't apply until you've taken care of it) even at 15psi, the tiny t25 snail is probably working pretty close to its efficiency limit. If you're overworking your turbo, you're both shortening its life, and ending up with a much hotter charge than optimal; hotter charge = slower car. The 14b on your (stock?) 1G has a larger efficiency range than the t25, if you're comparing it with similar boost levels.

Did you own the car before the rebuild? Does it seem slower then before?

How fast is your car compared to other stock 2g eclipses? Where are you tapped in for boost? (Are you sure your getting the full 15psi?)

i like the apexi downpipe, gives it a really throaty sound.

i tapped into the FPR vacuum line for my boost controller.

my 1g has the 14b yes with no other mods and its a 5 speed

how reliable are the auto meter air/fuel gauges? according to it i am not running lean at WOT.

i bought the car with a spun rod bearing, so i dont know how fast it was prior to the rebuild.

thanks and any more input is welcome :thumb:

I have a tsi awd auto and it's pretty fast. It's got a shift kit, but still autos aren't that slow. On a good launch I can beat a 5-speed. I believe autos are usually faster anyway. The only time I lose boost is when I take my foot off the gas. My boost gauge reads 16 psi all the way down the track. In a 5-speed the boost has to be built back up every time it's shifted. That is just my opinion.

LOL
honestly...
either you don't know how to drive or there' something really wrong with your car
my friend had a stock 98 gst eclipse automatic and it beat a 99 jetta vr6 5-speed manual

it's not all in the parts, it's in the skill and tunning

the escort runs between a 16.7 and a 17. A Auto GST could beat that in reverse. It has nothing to do with the skill. Either the escort is modded or the eclipse is broken

Hey don't knock a ford I own one and it is molded alot and have seen gt escort that haveo the turbo motor swap done that have a mean boost level of 22psi and about 325 to the wheels and if anyone lives in jacksonville FLA they will see on of them and please i am not knocking the dsm spot because we are one the hottest imports on the streets and will always will 2g 4 me.

DSM's are imports? odd..

sidenote: dsm's were made in ILL

I would rewire the fuel pump if you have not already done so and back the boost off to 13-14 you will notice a great deal difference.

just fyi before i bought a dsm i had a protege lx 5spd.

it ran a 15.7 quarter mile.

another guy on the same club as i was on had a 14.5 all motor protege.

both the protege LX and the escort GT used the same 1.8 DOHC bp motor.

Lets not make this an import/domestic thread k ;) First off, shit can those 7es' and get some 6's...i dont think you are ready for 7's yet...and gap them right...then go from there

no,Honda's are imports, our cars are mutts.we got mitsu and Chrysler parts.you can buy a dsm part in a dodge dealer and vice-versa.Back to the subject.I am by no means a fan of ford except for the mustang and the few cars they build right :p .But i have heard of some horror stories from my buddy in northern Florida about some seriously fast escorts,he owns a s14 and they've walked him a couple of times. If you know the guy find out what he has under the hood.maybe with some good amounts of mods and you being an auto he had a good battle on his hands.

ok ill get the 6's and try them. really cant wait till the logger comes in to see whats really going on. i set it at like 12 psi today just to be on the safe side, kinda seems a little quicker but you can tell its not even close to where it should be. anyone have any numbers on stock gst auto's?

I noticed you had a greddy type RS bov, which probably isn't recirculated. This will definitely hurt you some between shifts.

i own a 98 galant es and a 97 eclipse gsx

i walked over a guy with escort gt who had bigger pistons on it wit the galant which only has a short ram intake and a coffee-can muffler :)

i'm not trying to say escorts are slow, or they can't be modded out, of course they can but come on dsm is a dsm

Hmm, last time I checked kill stories weren't allowed. And the time before that when I checked... a galant might walk over an Escort GT if the driver forgot where the gas pedal was... maybe.

You may want to look into auto's a little before you bash them. I guarantee my auto would rape your lil rsx in its stock form with just exhaust. Those cars must have had idiots behind the wheel or problems. As far as getting away from the auto :notgood: That would be stupid until and you would still be slow until you fix what is making it so slow right now.

I think the spark plugs are posing a pretty big problem right now, you would be amazed at the difference that alone can make. Also were you racing from a stop or from a roll? If you raced from a stop did you stall up for the launch or just press the gas? When my car was stock there was almost a 1 second difference between stalling it up for the launch and just pressing the gas. Were you manually shifting your auto or letting it shift itself? Did you have the overdrive on or off? Was your a/c on?

There are many fast escorts out there, and the guy could have been bsing you and had the turbo 2.3 or something of the sorts under the hood and you have never known. I tell people my car is stock all the time and that it is just all show. They take one good look at the gaudy body kit and laugh and believe me. :thumb: :sneaky:

Dont feel bad, I lost to a stock probe gt, the v6 model. But that is when i was completely stock.
You really need to get that logger to see exactly what your knock is lookin like.
