ok i have a valve cover off of a sonada or something dont remember the make i have took three off differnt cars in the junk yard. but here is my problem on the valve cover there is a tiny hole next to the front bolt on the timing belt side of the car. all valve covers hyundia and dsm all have this hole, but in my car there is oil coming out of the hole i didnt notice it until i bead blasted my heat sheild to make it look cleaner then the next day i look and there is oil all over it coming out of the hole, and i know its from the hole because if you put like a paper towel in front of the hole with the car on you will get a oil spot on the towel, so has anyone ever had this problem?

That hole is a drain hole for any oil that may accumulate in the spark plug valley of the valve cover. Take off the plastic spark plug cover to try to see where the oil is coming from. It could be leaking from one of the round plug hole gaskets, from the oil cap gasket or possibly from a crack in the valve cover.

i didnt even think of that thanks, and yes thats where its coming from, but the oil is coming out of where the bolts are, how or what do i seal it with?

Sounds like you may need a new valve cover gasket. Make sure you get one that includes the 4 circular plug gaskets as well as the half moon seal.

You shouldn't have to put any type of sealant on the valve cover bolts.

Be careful not to overtorque the bolts as it is easy to crack the VC. Tighten them finger tight using a socket then maybe another 1/4 turn with the ratchet. If a significant amount of oil has gotten down inside the plug wells then it would be a good idea to clean it out to avoid potential problems with misfire.

its not cracked, the bolts were finger tight with a little turn of a socket, i know ive broke a valve cover before it sucked, but like you know the things that seal the bolts stock like the washers with like rubber on them could the ruber of gone bad? ### those feel off when i took the valve cover off the hyundia, and i just put them back on. its a brand new gasket, adn its not coming from the spark plug cylinder and there is none in there

There are rubber washers for the bolts that secure the plastic spark plug cover but I have never seen them used on the bolts that secure the VC to the head. None of the VC bolts go into an oil passage, therefore no type of crush washer or thread sealant should be needed.

I'm not completely clear on which bolt hole the oil is coming up from but other than a bad VC gasket, defect in the VC itself or possibly even the cylinder head this should not be happening.

Did you check the condition of the oil cap gasket?

no the bolts leaking oil are the ones where the spark plugs go, like under with wire cover, the spark pulgs them self arent leaking but the bolts that are in there with the plug wires if you get what im saying

i ment finger tight with a turn or a socket, sorry i was in a hurry when i was typing that. the bolts are tight, but not to tight, the oil is coming from the bolts that are under the plastic spark plug wire cover that is held on by like 5 bolts i think, its not coming out of all the bolts just like 2-3

Pull the plug wires real quick and check if there is oil in the wells. If not, you can try tightening those few bolts slightly more (AT YOUR DISCRETION! Be smart about how much you're tightening!).

yea i killed one valve putting in a pcv valve, i didnt know how tight to make it until it got really loose and my valve cover had a hole in it :(, so im careful about how tight i make them

well i know if they arent tight enough they will leak, im guessing thts what it is, they were tight or i thought they were i must not of tightened them all the way, i clean all the oil out and made the bolts tighter, lets see if thats the problem or a bad vc gasket if thats the case its under warrenty and i just bought it last month.

The soft washers under the valve cover capscrews are to allow some give and provide thread locking without being so hard on the valve cover as lock washers would be. There's nothing under them to seal. The valve cover is sealed by the valve cover gasket.
