Hi how you doing guys,i been doing alot of research and really can't come to a conclusion..here is what im dealing with. I have a 90gst with built motor tuning with v3 dsmlink and just this week made the switch to e85..well right now I have a evo lll turbo it pulls pretty nice and all but I have a friend that is selling his hrc super 20g to me for a really good price ..

So now that I'm on the corn gas,im looking for 380-450whp max.. So I was thinking of selling my turbo and buying my friends turbo. What you guys think about that 20g..i do mostly hwy racing , would that turbo be a better over all turbo for me?

What are the pros and cons to both turbos?

Thanks

I am running the super 16g and love it. For fwd the slight lag from the 10cm housing is nice. The 20g is rated up to 500hp and the 16g 400hp, was thinking of having Hahn switch mine to the 20g soon. The supers have great pull to redline and are great street turbos on top of that. Just word of caution watch out about taking about street racing on here, we like to keep it on the dragstrip here. I'm sure you will get plenty of feedback how Hahn turbos suck and lots of trash talk. But just remember most of those who trash them have never used one or probably seen one in person LOL. If you can get it cheap it would be a nice upgrade from the evo3.

Evo III 16G pros:

- Direct bolt-on upgrade for 1Gs, easy 2G installation with the right parts.
- Ridiculously reliable
- Quickest-spooling 42 lb/min turbo you'll find for our cars hands-down.

Evo III 16G cons:

- Requires a manifold upgrade or porting to the stocker.
- Requires an o2 housing upgrade or porting to the stocker.
- Does not like to hold lower boost levels on cars with unrestricted exhaust systems.

Hahn (MHI) 10cm T3 20G pros:

- Available new for less than an Evo III 16G.
- Capable of 2-4 lb/min of additional airflow over the Evo III 16G
- MHI reliability
- More turbine flow than the Evo III, favoring cars with higher compression or additional displacement.
- Downfiring compressor outlet eliminates the need for a j-pipe on most FMIC setups.

Hahn (MHI) 10cm T3 20G cons:

- Turbine housing is larger than necessary for DSM use.
- T3 turbine housing does not fit our manifolds without an adapter plate which is prone to leaking.
- Turbine housing outlet does not fit a DSM o2 housing...you'll need to find one or fab one.

Best of both worlds? Put the 20G into a 7cm DSM bolt-on turbine housing.

Nice, I was hoping you chim in...yeah I'm picking this turbo up real cheap with the 3inch o2 and adaptor plate..i think my friend has the housing from his big 16g..so ill swap it over

is there any way to tell the difference between both, like any type of stamping on it or something, cause i might pick one up tomorrow from a guy, but i cant tell if it is a 7cm....i know if you put them side to side you can tell cause the 6cm housing looks smaller, but without having to compare them how would i tell?

The 6cm housing has 060 cast into it, the 7cm has 070.

7cm came on the evo III 16g, and big 16g. The small 16g and the 14b came with 6cm housings.
This is wrong- ALL 16G's for DSM's came with 7cm housings. If you have a Small 16G with a 6cm housing, someone put it there. :thumb:

Please you are krazee!:ohdamn: I had a Hahn Racecraft Super 20g and it sucked for life. Worst money ever spent. Total junk!!!!

I might get a t3 manifold to take advantage of the 10cm housing ..what rpm should I expect full boost? Ill be runing it at 28-30 psi

I ran an HRC s20g on my GST for about 5 years. It was a great turbo...it pulled hard, never had an issue with the internal gate creeping, and like Dsmkauai said, the little extra lag on a GST is a good thing.

The only problem I had with the Hahn setup, was the leaking adapter plate and the leaking manifold spacer plate. Had them machined twice, put on new gaskets, and still would leak.

I went to a T3, and all was well. The ERL manifold is real nice, and will give plenty of room for the Hahn to clear the water pipe w/out any spacers.

Good luck...

Oops, I forgot....I saw full boost before 4500k @ 23psi on 92 octane

Nice , I'm aiming for 390-400whp if I get more then that's even better LOL

The leaking parts was exactly the major issue I had. Worst of them was the o2 housing. The erl mani was not available when I purchased the turbo because I bought it from hahn when it first came out.
I used a turboonetics mani which solved the spacer problem but the o2 was an issue. This turbo will work better with a Mitsubishi 7cm turbine housing ported out. Response will be better all around. It will be pretty laggy with the 10cm hsing but will pull nicely upstairs. I still say go 7cm.
