how will I know when my turbo dies?

take off the intake piping and check for shaft play in the turbo. if there is excessive back and forth or side to side movement, then the turbo is probably no good

Shaft play, leaking/blowing oil from the turbo, smoke coming out of it or a high pitch noise from the turbo.

^ And you'll smell stuff burning. Will probably notice the thick cloud behind you as you cruise on the highway too.

when its buried in the ground. Or when it wont boost, or when it blows into a thousand peices from excessive shaft play causing it to fry everything inside.

**a little dramatic but it happened on my friends wrx. 60-1 shot the internals of it through the hood. not pretty.
