I picked up a 90 AWD talon with 2g GSX rims (17x6.5) and wanted to toughen up the stance of the car a little. Not looking to buy new rims right now. I need new tires though so I was wondering if any of you have these rims and what is the biggest tires I can run on these. It currently has 215/45/17.

Would some 225/45/17 with 20mm spacers fit flush with the fenders and avoid rubbing?

225 tires on a 6.5 rim will stick way out over the rim and you will get a LOT of rollover on that combo. Straightline driving, and "normal" driving will be ok. But if you start doing any spirited driving, the car will feel floaty around corners ### the tires will start to roll over. Def. not recommended.

The point you're driving home is true, but a 225 tire can and has fit very well on a 6.5" wheel.

Mine, for instance, are completely flat sidewall. No bulge whatsoever.
225/45/17 on stock GSX wheels, 17 "x 6.5"

I won't lie though, sometimes I miss being so nimble with the 205's I had on previously. There are days that I'd trade my ultimate grip for just a little more edge in the corners.
