ok so i keep looking and looking and still can't find anything so please help me out if you can. I'm swapping the engine to a newer one because i spun a rod bearing and my engine is done. i have the engine to the point of lifting but i can't seem to get the trans to separate from the engine. I've been at it for a long time and i can't seem to get this thing apart. i am absolute that all the bolts are out. this is my first engine swap so i apologize if this seems like a stupid question. ANY help would be appreciated. Thank you.

sorry to sound like an idiot but whats a Haynes transmission? yes it is a manual. i have about a 1 inch gap in between the motor and the trans.

sorry sorry... idiot move. hit the wrong button... no i have a chilton but it doesn't have a very good description of this process...

Haynes man. isnt the tranny its a book that will tell you how to do things.

Make sure all the bolts are out that bolts up tranny and motor.

i have all seven bell housing bolts out i'm absolute in that i have the motor that i'm swapping sitting next to the car so i can use it as a reference.

ok... so i just noticed this. is it possible that the the starter is holding it in place? i was told that i only needed to unwire it...

Yes starter bolts have to come out. They go thru the tranny, and then through the midplate which is attched to the motor, and then into the starter.

From experience, it is a lot easier to pull the engine and transmission together as one unit than to try and yank the engine from the trans.

ok cool i'm going to try to get that starter out and see how it goes from there. thank you very much.

get the starter out, make sure all bell housing bolts are out, then use a pry bar to separate the motor from the tranny, i had to take the crank pully off and angle the cam gear side of the motor up so it went at an angle ### the fly wheel catches the bell housing

I hope youre not trying to pull the engine out with the transmission still hanging by the mount. Triple check everything. Make sure nothing is connected to the transmission. Crawl underneath the car with a pry bar and try to work it off the motor. Once you get it started you should be able to lower it down and slide it out from the bottom.
