I have been searching and can't find very much info on how to identify a 4g64 swap in a 2g. I just bought a 97 gsx and was told it had a 4g64 swap. I don't see any differences, but is there a way to tell if it has been done?

It depends on how complete of a swap they did. If they used the 4G63 timing cover you will see a small gap between the lower and middle cover. The deck of the 4G64 is 6mm taller.

You can also check the stamp on the front of the motor.

I forgot about starting this thread, but I looked at the identification plate on the front and it says sbr736-2010. I can't see the vin plate on the back of the engine without tearing everything apart.

Oh, and the upper timing cover is not on there yet. I am waiting for it to get here.

Yeah, I looked above the dipstick on the drivers side front of the block. That is where I got that number. Do you think it is a slow boy block? Can I call them and find out what it is?

The vin is easy to find.

I will look again. I think It is covered on mine and I would have to take the thermostat housing off to see it. I sent slowboy racing an email so I will see what they say. Thank you guys!

I called slowboy racing and he told me that he can't look up what it is. Is there any way to tell if it is a 2.0 or 2.4 without disassembling the engine?

stick a rod in the spark plug hole and measure the stroke of the piston in the BTDC and Top dead center... make a mark as reference, and then compare the reference with a ruler, and there you got... Easy no????

As mentioned before, my 6 bolt reads "2.4" in the casting. Hyundai block, do the mitsubishi blocks have the same 2.4 in the casting?
