How to/How Hard is it to port and polish intake manifold

does anyone know how to port and polish an intake manifold, and head, and how hard it is to do it? my auto teacher says he has the tools to do it, so i want to do it in class. any help is appreciated

oh yeah, what tools are needed(just to make sure he has them all)? thanks
 
what about the intake manifold?? and im pretty sure my auto teacher knows how to do it so he can show me
 
I dought your auto teacher knows how to port out an intake manifold to help imporve flow. Sure you can do it, but that dosent mean that you will gain anything from it.

If he does really know how, then get him to do it on another manfold that is laying around the shop.

And if you have a flow bench test it before and after.

Anyone can polish a manifold, or head with little to no effects to the motor. But when you start to remove material from a part of the car you cant put it back. So be VERY carful if you let him do that to your stuff. Make sure that he will cover the costs of a new one if he destroys the old one.

but i do know that a kid that was a senior last year and graduated P & P his 1st gen talon tsi awd in the shop, and his talon is pretty fast. so i dunno ill talk to him a little more to see if he knows what hes talking about. thanks guys
 
whats the point in porting the intake mani ? unless your going to port match the head. see the point ? u must not know enough.

WTF??

if the intake manifold is ported then there is less restriction there. theres still going to be restriction in the head, but air wont be held up by the mani. its just like why get rid of the air box if theres still going to be restriction from the tb and manifold? minimizing the restriction to the intake gives you more power, even tho the manifold and head still have the same restriction. maybe you dont know enough.

now- lets look at the turbulance your ported intake cause as it slames against the STEP on the intake port runner on the head you left alone. And the slightly higher AIT's the polish job caused.
 
ya but if the intake side of the head is ported it will stop the restriction it causes the new free flowing air when it reaches the smaller entrence of the head. not gonna polish the head too much cause a little roughness is good for mixing the air and fuel together.

you cam smooth out the port openings on your head, it won't hurt you. Same with intake manifold, smooth them out and open up tb opening a bit. Its a waste of time. Here's why:

The extrude hone process involves an abrasive slurry that is forced through the manifold widening the passages as it goes. RRE sells EH manifolds for 375$. Dejon Tool sells a SMIM for 500$, as does Magnus ( 4G63 of course ). 125$ extra for alot more airflow.

Are there any for the 420a or all for the 4g63? i know about the magnus ive already seen that.
